CapacityStarts at 8, then 12 after the first, then 16 after the second

You can buy two bomb upgrades in the First Quest, each for 100 rupees, from old men hidden in Level 5 and Level 7. Each one adds four to your bomb capacity, so the maximum rises from 8 to 12 and then to 16. Bring 100 rupees with you when you enter each room, because the old man will not wait while you go to collect money.

First upgrade: Level 5

Reach the room with the bomb wall

Level 5 room with Keese and a bomb on the right wall

Enter Level 5 and work through its rooms, collecting small keys as you go. The upgrade comes after you have taken the Recorder from its stairway room: leave that room, go up one room, then right and down into the room of six Keese, and pick up the small key on its floor. The bomb wall is on the east side of that room.

Bomb the right wall

Level 5 room with the right wall opened by a bomb

Stand against the east wall of the Keese room and place a bomb. When the wall opens, walk through the passage to a small room with three fires and an old man in the middle.

Pay 100 rupees

Old Man offering the first bomb upgrade for 100 rupees

Talk to the old man and pay 100 rupees. He adds four bombs to your capacity, which takes you from 8 to 12. Your bombs refill to the new maximum straight away.

Second upgrade: Level 7

Find the room with three Dodongos

Three Dodongos in a Level 7 room

In Level 7 the way to the second old man runs up the left side of the dungeon. Head to the third room up from the bottom on that side, where three Dodongos wait. Defeat them with bombs or by stunning them, then unlock the door above with a small key.

Pay 100 rupees for the last upgrade

Old Man offering the second bomb upgrade for 100 rupees in Level 7

The old man behind that door raises your capacity by four more bombs, from 12 to 16, for 100 rupees. Have the money ready before you open the door. You are now at the maximum bomb capacity for the First Quest.

This room is the one reached by going up from the three-Dodongo room on the left side of the dungeon. The Dodongos are avoidable, so you can slip past them if your bombs are low.

Second Quest upgrades

In the Second Quest the bomb upgrades move. One is in Level 4 and the other is in Level 8, and both cost 100 rupees. Bring the rupees with you when you enter those dungeons.

The walkthrough chapters for the First Quest upgrades are the Level 5 chapter and the Level 7 chapter.
