| Bottles | None. Link’s Awakening DX has no bottle item of any kind, so fairies cannot be stored |
|---|---|
| Revival item | Secret Medicine, one at a time, brings you back at full hearts when you die |
| Buy it | Crazy Tracy, 28 or 42 rupees, beside Manbo’s Pond near Goponga Swamp |
| Free doses (DX) | Chests in the Face Shrine, Eagle’s Tower and Turtle Rock |
| Great Fairy | The Fairy Queen of the Color Dungeon, who gives the Red or Blue Clothes |
| Carry limit | 1 Secret Medicine |
There are no bottles in Link’s Awakening DX, so there is no Fairy Bottle to look for: a fairy that appears must be used on the spot. Healing comes from four sources. Recovery Hearts restore a little health at any time, fairies refill hearts when you touch them, the Secret Medicine revives you automatically when your hearts run out, and the Great Fairy (Fairy Queen) of the Color Dungeon rewards you with new clothes rather than healing. The Secret Medicine is the only item that can be carried for later, and it is limited to one dose.

| 3 | Secret Medicine | Revives you at full hearts after a death. Sold by Crazy Tracy and found in three DX chests |
| 4 | Great Fairy | Gives the Red Clothes or Blue Clothes in the Color Dungeon. No healing |
Why there are no bottles
Bottles belong to the Nintendo Switch remake of the game, where you can catch fairies and release them later. The Game Boy and Game Boy Color versions never had them, and no Piece of Heart, chest or shop in this guide hides one. The role a bottled fairy plays in other games is split here between two things: a fairy touched on the spot heals you at once, and the Secret Medicine revives you when you would otherwise lose.

Fairies
A fairy is a small winged light that drifts around and heals you when you touch it. Mini-bosses leave one behind, along with a warp tile: when you beat Rolling Bones in Tail Cave or the Hinox in Bottle Grotto, a fairy and a warp spot appear, as the first and second chapters point out. Take it before you leave the room: it cannot be carried out, and you will want it if you are low on hearts when the fight ends.

Treat a fairy as a free refill: if you are hurt when a mini-boss falls, collect the fairy before you take the warp or the next door.

Secret Medicine
The Secret Medicine works when you die. If you are carrying it and your last heart goes, it is used up automatically and you are brought back at full health. You do not press anything: it triggers by itself. It is a sensible thing to hold before the Wind Fish’s Egg, as the finale chapter advises.

You can hold only one dose at a time. Buy a new one after the first has been used.

Buying it from Crazy Tracy
Crazy Tracy’s Health Spa stands beside Manbo’s Pond, near Goponga Swamp. Playing Manbo’s Mambo on the Ocarina warps you to Manbo’s Pond, which makes the spa an easy trip once you know the song, as the Eagle’s Tower chapter notes.

The price depends on a hidden count of enemies you have defeated: an even count gives 28 rupees and an odd count gives 42.

Free doses in DX chests
Three chests in DX hold a Secret Medicine, one each in the last three main dungeons. Since you can carry only one dose, it is worth saving the chests for when your hands are empty.

Face Shrine (Level 6). The chest is deep in the dungeon. See the Face Shrine chapter.

Eagle’s Tower (Level 7). The chest is in the later part of the tower. See the Eagle’s Tower chapter for the route.
Turtle Rock (Level 8). The chest is in the middle part of the dungeon. See the Turtle Rock chapter.

The Great Fairy fountain
The Great Fairy, whom the game also calls the Fairy Queen, is not a place to heal. In the Color Dungeon, past the boss, she offers you a choice of the Red Clothes or the Blue Clothes, and you can wear only one at a time.

| Clothes | Effect |
|---|---|
| Your attacks hit harder and knock enemies back, like a permanent Piece of Power | |
| You take reduced damage, like a permanent Guardian Acorn |
In DX you can come back later and swap one color for the other as often as you like: the doors stay open and the boss stays beaten, but you must walk back through the dungeon to reach her. You can never go back to the green clothes you started with. The route into the Color Dungeon and every room are described on the Color Dungeon page.
