The Ocarina of Time Remake has 45 characters worth knowing, and this page lists each one under the name the game shows: where you first talk to them, what they hand over and which chapter covers the scene. Ten of them arrive with a name card that gives a title under the name, such as “Navi, Forest Fairy” or “Rauru, Creator of the Temple of Time”. The rest are introduced in the dialogue box or on a sign. Entries run by region in the order you usually meet them, and the table below lists every character with a one-line summary.

Kokiri Forest and the Lost Woods
GREAT DEKU TREE, The Forest Guardian
The old tree that guards Kokiri Forest. He sends for you, asks you to break the curse inside him and, when Gohma is dead, thanks you outside and tells you about the three goddesses and the Triforce. He gives you the Kokiri Emerald, the first of the three Spiritual Stones.

Deku Tree Sprout
The sapling that grows where the Great Deku Tree stood. When you return to Kokiri Forest as an adult, the Deku Tree Sprout tells you how a Hylian child came to grow up among the Kokiri and asks you to break the curse on each temple. Nothing is handed over, but the talk updates your quest goal.

SARIA, Link’s Childhood Friend
Saria greets you outside your house and meets you at the foot of the ladder. She gives you the Fairy Ocarina when you leave the forest, and later teaches you Saria’s Song in the Lost Woods clearing. As an adult you meet her again as the Sage of the Forest: after the Forest Temple she gives you the Forest Medallion.

Mido
The self-appointed boss of the Kokiri. A sign calls his house the Mansion of the Great Mido, Boss of the Kokiri. He blocks the path to the Deku Tree until you carry a sword and a shield, so you spend the first part of the game earning both. As an adult he stops you again at the gate in the Lost Woods and lets you pass only after you play Saria’s Song for him. Inside his house, three blue rupees and a green rupee sit in chests.

Skull Kid
A Skull Kid sits on a stump in the Lost Woods and asks if you have an instrument. Repeat his tunes on the Fairy Ocarina and he pays a blue rupee, a red rupee and, for the longest round, Heart Piece #8. A second Skull Kid by the stream pays Heart Piece #9 when you play Saria’s Song to him, and he also buys the Skull Mask from the Happy Mask Shop chain for 10 rupees. See Lost Woods and Sacred Grove.

On Death Mountain he offers a ride from the summit down to the blue roofs of Kakariko Village.

Malon
The girl with the milk cart on the road above Hyrule Castle Town. She asks you to find her father and gives you the Weird Egg to wake him. You see her again at the ranch as an adult, where she talks about her worries and later reads out your lap time. See Lon Lon Ranch.

Talon
The owner of Lon Lon Ranch, found asleep in the castle garden. Wake him with the hatched Wake-Up Cucco. At the ranch house he challenges you to find three loose Cuccos in 30 seconds and rewards you with a bottle of Lon Lon Milk. He asks for the bottle back once you drink it. As an adult he has turned over a new leaf.

Ingo
The ranch hand who has taken over Ingo Ranch in Talon’s absence. He rents out rides for 20 rupees. Call Epona with Epona’s Song, beat him in two races and the horse is yours. He locks the gate on you, so jump it with Epona. The races are covered in Ingo Ranch and Epona.

ZELDA, Princess of Hyrule
The princess in the castle courtyard, disguised as a villager. After she sees the Kokiri Emerald, she shows you Ganondorf through a window, hands you Zelda’s Letter and introduces Impa. Later she leaves you a message that teaches the Song of Time. As an adult you also meet her as Sheik, and she gives you the Light Arrow before Ganondorf takes her away. See Hyrule Castle.
