SwordSmith’s Sword, White Sword, then the Elements make it split into 2, 3 and 4 Links (the Four Sword)
Shield and extrasMirror Shield, Magical Boomerang, Remote Bombs and the Light Arrows

Every bag in The Minish Cap has three upgrades, and the game always gives you the next size up. So whichever wallet source you reach first gives the 300-Rupee wallet, the next gives 500 and the last gives 999, and the same holds for Bomb Bags and quivers. The sword grows by soaking up the four Elements at the Elemental Sanctuary, and the Mirror Shield comes from Biggoron after the ending. Below are the exact locations in the order a normal game reaches them.

Sword and shield

Smith’s Sword and the White Sword

You start with Smith’s Sword, a gift from King Daltus. Once you have the Earth and Fire Elements, take the Broken Picori Blade to Melari in Melari’s Mines at the top of Mt. Crenel. He forges the White Sword, which replaces your grandfather’s sword for the rest of the game (Infusing the Picori Blade). Charge it with the sword button to release a Spin Attack; the Tiger Scrolls add more techniques.

White Sword with Earth and Fire

Walk into the Elemental Sanctuary in Hyrule Castle, go to the pedestal and thrust the White Sword into it. The Earth and Fire Elements pour into the blade. Charge the sword on a glowing floor slab and you split into two Links, which is how you press two switches at once.

White Sword with three Elements

After the Temple of Droplets, return to the sanctuary through the Hyrule Castle Garden and infuse the blade again with the Water Element. You can now split into three Links and stand on triangle-shaped slabs (Royal Valley and the Royal Crypt).

Four Sword

With the Wind Element from the Palace of Winds in hand, place all four Elements on their pedestals in the sanctuary. The blade becomes the Four Sword, and you split into four Links for the Dark Hyrule Castle puzzles and Vaati’s Wrath (Dark Hyrule Castle). More about each Element is on The Four Elements.

Mirror Shield

The Mirror Shield needs the whole Goron quest. After all six Gorons are in the Goron Cave, fuse a red piece with the Goron on the far right and Biggoron takes his place at Veil Springs. After the ending, speak to him with the Small Shield equipped, let him swallow it, wait a while and speak to him again to get the Mirror Shield back (Postgame Collectibles and 100% Completion). It reflects beams and magic that the Small Shield cannot. If you lose it, buy a Small Shield in Hyrule Town and feed it to him again.

Wallet upgrades

The three wallet upgrades come in a fixed order: whichever you collect first holds 300 Rupees, the next 500 and the last 999. A normal game collects them in the order below, so the sizes match the headings. If you reach the Great Butterfly Fairy before the Lon Lon Ranch chest, the fairy gives the 500 wallet and the chest the 999 one.

First wallet (300 Rupees): Stockwell’s Shop

After the Picori Festival, go to Stockwell’s Shop in Hyrule Town, the building with a giant Rupee on its roof. He sells a bigger wallet for 80 Rupees, which raises your limit from 100 to 300 (Ascent to Mount Crenel). You can buy it as soon as you reach town after the ceremony.

Second wallet (500 Rupees): Mayor Hagen and Lon Lon Ranch

Enter Mayor Hagen’s house in Hyrule Town, go through the east door and climb down the ladder to a chest with a red Kinstone piece. Fuse it with Hagen. At Lon Lon Ranch the pool drains, and a staircase leads down to a small room with a chest holding the wallet (Getting the Pegasus Boots).

Third wallet (999 Rupees): Great Butterfly Fairy

With the Cane of Pacci, use the round hole in the Minish Woods to reach the adventurer’s spring, where the Great Butterfly Fairy lives. Answer yes to throwing your Rupees in, confirm, and she hands over the wallet and gives your money back. You leave through a door into the Eastern Hills. The Great Fairies page lists the other two (Fairy Fountain Locations).

Bomb Bag upgrades

Each source raises the Bomb Bag one step, from 10 to 30, then 50, then 99, whichever order you collect them in. The sizes below follow a normal game.

Great Mayfly Fairy, Mt. Crenel

Climb the rough red wall of Crenel Wall with the Grip Ring. At the ledge with a sign saying no bomb throwing, set a bomb against the wall to open a cave. Throw a bomb into the fountain and the Great Mayfly Fairy asks whether you dropped a golden or a silver bomb. Answer neither. She gives you the Big Bomb Bag, which holds 30 bombs.

Belari’s chest, Wind Ruins

After the Temple of Droplets, shrink in the Minish Woods and fuse red pieces with Elder Gentari and then Belari. Walk into the Wind Ruins, enter the first courtyard below the stairs and open the chest at its east edge. It holds the bigger Bomb Bag (50 bombs).

Stockwell’s Shop

When you have the 600 Rupees and your wallet holds that much, buy the 99-bomb bag at Stockwell’s Shop. A bug in the European (PAL) release means the bag never appears on the shelf there, so you stop at 50 bombs in that version.

Quiver upgrades

The Bow starts with a 30-arrow quiver. The three upgrades give 50, 70 and 99 arrows in turn, whichever order you collect them in; the sizes below follow a normal game.

Stockwell’s Shop

Pick up the quiver on the left shelf at Stockwell’s Shop in Hyrule Town and pay 600 Rupees (Hyrule Town Side Quests and Kinstone Fusions).

Wind Ruins cloud chest

Fuse a red piece with the Forest Minish in the Wind Ruins at Minish size. A beanstalk grows; climb it to a cloud with a chest holding the Bigger Quiver (Collectibles Sweep Before the Temple of Droplets). The Ocarina of Wind helps you warp back out.

Great Dragonfly Fairy, Royal Valley

Walk north through North Hyrule Field and west into Royal Valley. Light the Flame Lantern, go down the steps and drop a bomb between the two posts to blow open the cave. The Great Dragonfly Fairy asks five questions. Answer No, No, Yes, No, No in that order. A wrong answer empties your arrows. Her reward is the biggest quiver (99 arrows).

Boomerang, bombs and arrows

Magical Boomerang

Fuse green pieces with Tingle (South Hyrule Field), Knuckle (Trilby Highlands), Ankle (Lon Lon Ranch) and David Jr. (Lake Hylia). Each opens a hollow tree in North Hyrule Field. Light the torch in every one, climb through the ladder maze and open the big chest to receive the Magical Boomerang. It flies farther than the Boomerang and you steer it with the control pad while it is airborne.

Remote Bombs

After the Water Element, fuse red pieces with Gentari and Belari in Minish Village, then talk to Belari. He swaps your bombs for Remote Bombs: place one and press the button again to detonate it, one at a time. You can return to him for normal bombs. They are useful for cracked blocks in dark rooms of Dark Hyrule Castle.

Light Arrows

Gregal in the Home of the Wind Tribe gives you the Light Arrows once you pull the ghost off him with the Gust Jar (Veil Falls and the Cloud Tops). They replace your normal arrows when you fire the Bow. Everything else on this page is listed again on Items and Equipment.
