Hyrule Town Side Quests and Kinstone Fusions Walkthrough

The Minish Cap 100% Completion Walkthrough19 chapters
CoversHyrule Town (Library, Town Square, market, Stockwell’s Shop), the cliffs north of town, Trilby Highlands, Western Wood, Lake Hylia, Lon Lon Ranch, North Hyrule Field and Hyrule Castle Garden
DungeonNone: this is a collecting block between dungeons
Rewards6 Pieces of Heart (the first four complete a Heart Container), 11 Kinstone fusions, Magical Boomerang, Large Quiver (bought), White Picolyte, the Bottle of Dog Food returned empty at Stockwell’s House (no new bottle; counted in Getting the Pegasus Boots), Mysterious Shells (20, 30, 30, 200 and 50 from chests and Anju), about a dozen Kinstone pieces, and four rupee chests (100, 100, 200 and 50 rupees)

This stretch of the game has no dungeon; you spend it turning the Kinstone pieces you pick up into rewards. You start in Hyrule Town, win rewards from Anju’s Cucco Roundup and Simon’s Simulation, fuse with the townsfolk, and then fan out to Trilby Highlands, Western Wood, Lake Hylia, Lon Lon Ranch, North Hyrule Field and Hyrule Castle Garden. You need the Pegasus Boots and the Flippers for several stops, and the Ocarina of Wind makes the Wind Crest warps much faster.

Cliffs north of Hyrule Town: Kinstone pieces and 100-rupee chests

Leave the Library, cross the Town Square and walk to the flower border on the north edge of town. Use the Pegasus Boots to dash along the narrow cliff ledges beyond it. You find two red Kinstone pieces lying along the ledge paths, so pick up both before you drop into the cave below.

The cave under the ledges is a teal ruin with ladders, bats and a patch of ice. One chest in the first room holds 100 rupees, and a second chest on a platform in the icy pool room holds another 100 rupees. Climb out when you have both and return to the Town Square.

Anju’s Cucco Roundup (Hyrule Town)

Anju, the red-haired woman beside the blue house in the east of town, runs the Cucco Roundup. Each round she asks you to carry her escaped cuccos back to the pen within a time limit, and she asks again every time you finish. The early rounds pay only rupees (the first reward here is 40 rupees), and the Pegasus Boots help a lot once the cuccos scatter.

Rounds 4, 5 and 6 each ask for 5 cuccos (45, 50 and 45 seconds) and pay Mysterious Shells on top of rupees: 20 shells and 90 rupees for round 4, 30 shells and 90 rupees for round 5, and 30 shells for round 6.

Stockwell’s Shop

With the rupees you just earned, step into Stockwell’s Shop, the blue-roofed house near the Town Square. Pick up the quiver on the left shelf and buy it for 600 rupees to receive the Large Quiver, which lets you carry more arrows. The shopkeeper thanks you for being a big spender and you leave with the bigger quiver.

Rounds 7 to 10

Round 7 asks for 6 cuccos and pays a red Kinstone piece plus 150 rupees. Round 8 asks for 7 cuccos in 60 seconds, and the reward is another red Kinstone piece together with 240 rupees.

Round 9 is only 2 cuccos in 55 seconds, but they run a long way, so dash after them. If the time runs out, Anju tells you to try again later and you can simply talk to her and restart. A successful round gives a third red Kinstone piece and 20 rupees.

The last round, round 10, asks for 3 cuccos in 55 seconds, and you need the Flippers because one cucco ends up across the river. Bring all three back to receive a Piece of Heart. This is your first piece in this block.

Kinstone fusions in Hyrule Town

Candy, the blonde girl by the yellow house next to the town well, fuses with a blue Kinstone piece. When the pieces fit, a cutscene shows a small grass platform rising from the pond in Trilby Highlands. You use that platform later, so remember it.

Farore, one of the three sisters staying at the inn in town, fuses with a red piece. The result is that Gorman, a would-be real estate agent, arrives to rent out the empty blue-roofed house. See the Hyrule Town Kinstone fusion list for every resident.

Talk to Gorman at the door of the empty house; he explains that he is looking for a tenant. Go back to the inn and tell the sisters about the empty house: they ask whether you are showing them an empty house, and you answer Yes, after which they move in.

Market stalls

In the market stalls in town, the Picolyte merchant sells White Picolyte for 100 rupees. You need an empty bottle, and the Picolyte makes extra Kinstone pieces drop when you cut grass. Use it in a field with lots of grass.

The Goron Merchant sells Kinstone pieces at his stall: green pieces for 50 rupees, blue for 200 and red for 300. Buy one green piece; the shapes of purchased pieces are random.

Simon’s Simulation

Go to Simon’s Simulation in the town centre, pay 10 rupees, and lie down in the bed. You wake in a purple arena filled with monsters; defeat all of them to win a Piece of Heart. The message says you now have two pieces and need two more. Simon invites you to come back for more simulations after you wake up.

Bremor and the Stranger

Bremor, the head carpenter, fuses with a red piece. He says he could build a good-sized house, and a map of Hyrule Town confirms the change.

The Stranger, a man in a red cap who waits in a house by the river, fuses with a red piece too. A cutscene points to South Hyrule Field, where a new warp spot appears among the trees.

With the Flippers, swim across the river west of the flower garden to a small walled room. A chest on a stone platform there holds 200 rupees.

Trilby Highlands and Western Wood

Head to Trilby Highlands and use the White Picolyte in the tall grass by the stump. Cut the grass and fight the Moblins; Kinstone pieces and Mysterious Shells pop out of the grass, including two Kinstone pieces and a few shells. The open bottle is empty again afterwards.

Continue into Western Wood and walk into the hollow tree on the left side of the clearing. Inside is a Piece of Heart, and the message says you now have three pieces.

Climb to the cliff ledges beyond the grass and dash along them to a blue Kinstone piece. Use it on the Mysterious Wall in the cliff. A cutscene then shows two Gorons breaking a wall in the Goron cave, and a third Goron joins them. This is one of the Mysterious Walls in the Goron quest.

Knuckle, nearby on the highlands, fuses with a green piece. A cutscene shows a tree in North Hyrule Field opening up, with a fire pit you can light inside.

Stand on the stump nearby to shrink and speak to the Forest Minish. Fuse with him using a green piece: the pond near the Trilby Highlands stump drains and a staircase to a cave appears. You can collect the rupees in the cave later.

Lake Hylia

Play the Ocarina of Wind at the Lake Hylia Wind Crest and warp there. Walk to the red-roofed house at the north end of the lake and dive into the small pond to its left (this needs the Flippers). The Piece of Heart at the bottom completes a new Heart Container.

Enter Stockwell’s House, the red-roofed house, where a white dog lives. Feed the dog by pouring the Dog Food from your bottle into its dish. You receive the empty bottle, so you now hold three bottles.

The dog also fuses with a green piece. A cutscene shows a log in the Lake Hylia marsh. The reward is a random one, so look for a new chest in the lake area later.

David Jr., the little white creature on the stump by the boat dock, fuses with a green piece. A cutscene shows a tree in North Hyrule Field opening: another of the four trees you visit later.

Lon Lon Ranch

Go to Lon Lon Ranch and step on the stump at the north-west corner of the ranch to shrink. In the Minish-sized grass, pick up a red Kinstone piece and then the Piece of Heart on the platform; you now have a piece toward the next Heart Container.

Back at full size, work up the ranch cliff ledges and pick up 50 rupees. Ankle, the pink Minish nearby, fuses with a green piece. A cutscene shows a third tree in North Hyrule Field, and Ankle says the pieces fit perfectly.

North Hyrule Field trees and the Magical Boomerang

Warp to the Hyrule Town Wind Crest and walk north through the town gate into North Hyrule Field. Several trees now have hollow trunks. Enter one: below ground is a room with ladders, a switch and a torch to light. One chest holds 200 Mysterious Shells.

Two more trees hold chests with a red Kinstone piece each. Light the torch in every room, then climb the ladders between the rooms.

When all four torches are lit, the ladder maze opens up and you can reach the big chest. It contains the Magical Boomerang. Hold the button you threw it with and press the control pad to steer it. See Items and equipment for more on its uses.

Hyrule Castle Garden

Walk to Hyrule Castle Garden and cut your way through the hedge maze in the south-east corner. Inside the hidden cave, drop to the dojo, where a swordsman trains; a Piece of Heart sits on a pedestal on the left.

Return to the garden and stand on the stump to shrink. Inside the Minish house, fuse with the Forest Minish using a green piece. A cutscene shows a fallen log in Western Wood, and the reward there is collected later.

Take the stairs in the middle of the castle front. Below is a blue room with a pool and a chest holding 50 Mysterious Shells.

Save your game from the Items menu, then use the Ocarina of Wind at the Wind Crest to warp to Mt. Crenel for the next stretch of the game.
