Swords
Kokiri Sword
You find the Kokiri Sword in Kokiri Forest before Mido lets you through to the Great Deku Tree. After the swordsman at the training grounds mentions a sword hidden in a space too tight for him, follow the path past the stone arch and the wooden sign and crawl into the hidden passage. At the top of the ladder, jump onto the rock ledge and open the large chest beside the round boulder. It is your only blade as a child.

Master Sword
The Master Sword waits in the Temple of Time. Recover the Ocarina of Time from the moat, play the Song of Time at the altar with the three Spiritual Stones in hand, and walk through the opened Door of Time to the pedestal. Pull the blade free and Link is carried seven years ahead as an adult. It stays your sword for the rest of the game, and putting it back on the pedestal turns you into a child again.

Giant’s Knife
Medigoron sells the Giant’s Knife from his nook in the tunnels of Goron City for 200 rupees. Warp to Death Mountain Crater with the Bolero of Fire, walk across the chain bridge and through the dark cave, and keep going past the mesh gate to the glowing alcove. The blade needs both hands, so it is too heavy to use with a shield. It is the first step of the Biggoron Sword trading sequence, and Biggoron takes it back at the end.

Biggoron Sword
You earn the Biggoron Sword at the top of Death Mountain by carrying the Giant’s Knife and a long chain of trade items to Biggoron. After you hand him the Biggoron Receipt, wait for the repair, return, and he swaps the knife for the sword. While it is equipped you cannot use a shield, so change swords before a fight that needs one. The full list of trades is in the Biggoron Sword route.

Shields
Deku Shield
The Kokiri Shop sells the Deku Shield for 40 rupees, and Mido will not move until you own one. Pick up rupees from the grass and stumps on the way, talk to the Shop Owner and ask about the shield. If you ever lose it, return to the shop for another. A Like Like in the Bottom of the Well can swallow it, and flames in the Spirit Temple burn it up, so carry some spare rupees.

Hylian Shield
Look for the Hylian Shield in the Graveyard behind Kakariko Village. Learn the Sun’s Song in the Royal Family’s Tomb, then play it on the path as a child. Beams of light sweep the field and one grave slab shows a Grab prompt. Pull it aside, drop into the hole, freeze the tall enemy with the Sun’s Song and open the chest. The shield is fire-resistant but too heavy for a child to block with while moving, so it works best once you grow up. More Graveyard secrets are in the Kakariko Village walkthrough.

Mirror Shield
You win the Mirror Shield on the adult side of the Spirit Temple. After the Iron Knuckle in the green carpet hall on 3F, step out onto the Evil Desert Colossus and open the chest at the top of the short stair beside the barrel and the wooden box. Its mirrored face reflects beams of light onto lamps, a sun face and later the barrier in Ganondorf’s Castle.

Tunics and clothes
Hero’s Clothes
The Hero’s Clothes are the outfit that adult Link wears on the Equipment tab. The description says the clothes were made for the Hero of Time with the blessing of Rauru, the Sage of Light. You never have to find them, and you swap to a tunic only when heat or water calls for one.

Goron Tunic
A small Goron in the dark corner of Goron City hands over the Goron Tunic as an adult after you promise to help his people with the Fire Temple, so reach him through the tunnels and the rubble you blast with Bombs. The tunic is red, adult sized and heat-resistant, and the Equipment screen marks it Adult Only while you are a child. Without it you cannot stay in scorching places such as the Fire Temple. The Goron shop also lists it for 600 rupees, so you can see it earlier. Read Goron City as an Adult for the route.

Zora Tunic
King Zora gives you the Zora Tunic after you melt his ice with Blue Fire from the Ice Cavern. It lets adult Link stay underwater as long as you want without coming up for air, and you need it for the Water Temple and for one pool in the Gerudo Proving Grounds. The Ice Cavern chapter covers the Blue Fire and the way to the throne room.

Boots
Iron Boots
The Iron Boots sit in a chest behind a gate deep in the Ice Cavern. Collect Blue Fire in a bottle, melt the pink ice, defeat the White Wolfos and walk through the opened gate to the chest on the snowy floor. They are too heavy to run or swim in, but they sink you to the bottom of deep water. After a short tutorial you can swap boots with the Equip Boots shortcut.

Hover Boots
The mini-boss on floor B1 of the Shadow Temple guards the Hover Boots in a chest in the mist. Defeat Dead Hand and open it. The boots let you float just above the ground and briefly walk on thin air. Equip them from the Equipment tab when you need them and take them off afterwards.

Bows and arrows
Fairy Slingshot
The Fairy Slingshot is in a chest on a tree stump on the second floor of the Great Deku Tree. Walk out along the fallen log to reach it. It fires Deku Seeds, and you use it on switches, Skulltulas and eyes you cannot reach. The Great Deku Tree walkthrough covers the rest of the dungeon.

Fairy Bow
The Fairy Bow is in a chest at the edge of the Stalfos arena in the Forest Temple, the first adult dungeon. An arrow counter appears beside the bow when you take it. Arrows come from chests, pots and the Bazaar in Hyrule Castle Town, and you need the bow for the Poe Sisters’ paintings, the Shooting Gallery and horseback archery.

Fire Arrow
You collect the Fire Arrow at Lake Hylia after you clear the Water Temple. Read the gravestone at the end of the causeway, wait for dawn with the lake full, and shoot the Fairy Bow at the halo of light on the water. The light lands on a stone dais on an island, so swim over and take the flame. See the Water Temple walkthrough for the full lead-up.

Ice Arrow
The Ice Arrow is the prize at the end of the Gerudo Proving Grounds. Pay 30 rupees at the door, spend your small keys on the chained doors and open the last large chest on the patterned carpet. The Ice Arrow freezes targets solid and sits next to the Fire Arrow in your item menu.

Light Arrow
Zelda gives you the Light Arrow in a story scene at the Temple of Time after the five temples are cleared. She holds out a ball of light, you catch it, and the message says it imbues your arrows with sacred light that repels evil. It is the main weapon against Ganondorf and Ganon, and you also shoot it at the Spirit barrier in Ganondorf’s Castle.

Hand tools and gauntlets
Boomerang
The Boomerang is in a chest on a circular pad deep inside Lord Jabu-Jabu’s Belly. Carry Ruto to the round door, set her on the shell pad, and go through alone. It returns when thrown, can grab distant items and stuns enemies, and you hold and release the button to aim it. You use it on lock-on targets, the green tentacles and the jellyfish later in the belly.

Hookshot
Dampé gives you the Hookshot in his grave in the Graveyard. As an adult, pull aside the tombstone that shows a Grab prompt beside the path, drop into the glowing hole, follow his lantern through the tunnels and keep up with him. The chest on the red rug holds the Hookshot, which fires at rune-marked targets and pulls you across. The route is in the Kakariko Village and the Hookshot chapter.

Longshot
You win the Longshot in the Water Temple after a duel with Dark Link. The chest is in a room behind a teal-glowing door. It is an upgraded Hookshot that reaches targets twice as far, and it is the item you use to cross the large gaps in the Gerudo Proving Grounds and Ganondorf’s Castle.

Megaton Hammer
The Megaton Hammer is in a chest on an upper floor of the Fire Temple, reached by the stone platform and a stairway after the Flare Dancer mini-boss. You need the Goron Tunic to survive the heat on the way. The hammer smashes hard objects, heavy switches and cracked boulders when the Hit prompt shows.

Goron Bracelet
Darunia gives you the Goron Bracelet in Goron City. First play the Sun’s Song for him, which he likes but does not accept, then Saria’s Song, which makes him dance and listen. After he asks you to beat the wild beast in Dodongo Cavern, he gives you the bracelet so you can pick up bomb flowers. Read Death Mountain Trail and Goron City for the details.

Silver Gauntlets
The Silver Gauntlets are in a chest on the Evil Desert Colossus ledge outside the child half of the Spirit Temple. Nabooru asks you to crawl through the small gap in the wall, climb to the top and bring her the treasure. Link says they are too big for a kid, but he keeps his promise and takes them anyway. The adult half of the temple is in the Spirit Temple chapter.

Golden Gauntlets
The Golden Gauntlets are the only new item in Ganondorf’s Castle. Go into the Shadow trial, light an arrow in the brazier and shoot it at the far torch with the Fairy Bow to raise the steps, defeat the Like-Like and wear the Lenses of Truth to follow the invisible walkway to the chest at its end. The message says you can lift even the heaviest of objects. Right away you push a pillar marked with gold runes across a gap to make a bridge.

Bombs and Deku items
Bomb Bag
The Bomb Bag is in a chest in front of a cracked wall in Dodongo Cavern. Shoot Deku Seeds into the eye switch in the rock face after the lava platform arena, then open the chest. It holds 20 bombs and comes stocked. Use Take out on the item menu to arm one. The Goron Bracelet is needed to carry bomb flowers in this dungeon, and the Dodongo Cavern walkthrough shows the way.

Bombchus
Win your first Bombchus at the Bombchu Bowling Alley in Hyrule Castle Town. Each play costs 10 rupees and puts 10 Bombchus in your pack, and clearing the lane the first time gives you a bundle of 10. Later you can collect more from dungeon chests, and the Cursed Rich Man gives 20 for a set of Gold Skulltula tokens. Bombchus climb walls once you aim and send them. More is on the Bombchu Bowling page.

Deku Sticks
A Deku Baba on the path in Kokiri Forest drops a Deku Stick when you cut its stem. The box says the stick is flammable and breaks easily. Light its tip at a torch or swing it as a weapon, and cut more Deku Babas to build the stock. Business Scrubs in Dodongo Cavern also sell five.

Deku Nuts
Cut down the first Deku Baba in the Great Deku Tree by hitting its head and you receive a Deku Nut. Equip it from the item menu and throw it to stun enemies. Small chests in the tree give three more twice, and Business Scrubs sell five at a time, so you rarely run low. They also appear in the Great Deku Tree chapter.

Magic and the Lenses of Truth
Din’s Fire
The Great Fairy at the summit of Death Mountain grants Din’s Fire as a child. Stand on the Triforce symbol in the fountain, play Zelda’s Lullaby and make the 25-rupee offering. An orb of fire forms above you, and the same visit unlocks your green magic meter. The spell drains magic quickly, so refill with a magic jar or a green potion. It lights far torches in the Spirit Temple and the Shadow Temple entrance. See Death Mountain Summit and Crater.

Farore’s Wind
A Great Fairy of Magic in Zora Fountain teaches Farore’s Wind for an offering of 100 rupees. Bomb the cracked wall on the path before Lord Jabu-Jabu’s Belly, walk down the lit corridor and play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce mark. The spell sets a return point, and recasting it later warps you back to the most recent point. It uses magic.

Nayru’s Love
The Great Fairy of Magic near the Spirit Temple gives Nayru’s Love for 300 rupees. Play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce symbol, choose Make an offering and receive the barrier that protects you for a short time at the cost of magic. You can reach her as an adult from the Evil Desert Colossus.

Double Magic
The Great Fairy of Wisdom in Death Mountain Crater doubles your magic meter for 200 rupees. As an adult, hammer the boulders in the crater cave to reach her fountain, play Zelda’s Lullaby and make the offering. The message calls it the gift of doubled magic. Get the route from Double Magic and Death Mountain.

Lenses of Truth
The Lenses of Truth come from the Bottom of the Well. Drop in from the well shaft, beat Dead Hand and open the chest that appears in the cleared room. Equip it from the Items screen and wear it to see through false walls, hidden chests and invisible enemies. It drains the magic meter while it is on, so switch it off when the way is plain. Details are in the Bottom of the Well chapter.

Diving gear and accessories
Silver Scale
The diving instructor in Zora Domain gives you the Silver Scale as a child. Climb the stairs to his cavern, jump off the ledge and grab all five scales he tosses in before the 40-second timer runs out. It lets you dive deeper than before.

Golden Scale
As an adult, pay 30 rupees for a fishing rod at the Fishing Pond on Lake Hylia and catch a fish bigger than 60 cm with the normal lure. When the Fishing Pond Man asks if you are finished, say yes and he hands over the Golden Scale. It lets you dive extremely deep, which you need for the Lakeside Laboratory tank. See Poes, the Hall of Fallen Foes and Lake Hylia.

Echo Gem
The Cursed Rich Man gives you the Echo Gem in his house in Kakariko Village once you have freed enough of his children with Gold Skulltula tokens. Equip it from the Equipment screen. The gem reacts when a Gold Skulltula is near and more strongly as you get closer. The Gold Skulltula list covers the token ladder.

Ocarinas and beans
Fairy Ocarina
Saria gives you the Fairy Ocarina when you leave Kokiri Forest after the Great Deku Tree. Accept her gift, and she plays a short tune to show you how it works. It shows up on your HUD afterward. Leaving Kokiri Forest has the walk to her.

Ocarina of Time
Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time into the moat, so after Ganondorf’s escape follow Navi’s glow along the water’s edge and pick up the blue glint under the surface. The box reads “You found the Ocarina of Time!” and it replaces the Fairy Ocarina. Every song in the game is played on it, and the song list shows where to learn each one.

Magic Bean
The Bean Seller in Zora River sells Magic Beans for 10 rupees for the first one, and later beans cost more. Plant a bean in soft soil and a sprout rises at once, then grows into a plant you can ride. The prices, the planting spots and the beans’ later uses are on Magic Bean Locations.
