This chapter takes you from the last cutscenes in the Temple of Time to the foot of Ganondorf’s tower. Zelda gives you the Light Arrow, Ganondorf carries her off, and you cross to his castle. Six barriers guard the tower. Each one hides a trial room, and each trial ends when you shoot a Light Arrow into the dark orb at its far end and the sage there thanks you. Along the way you find the Golden Gauntlets, pay the Great Fairy of Courage for her gift, and finish with Rauru dropping the last barrier.

From the Temple of Time to Ganondorf’s Castle
Sheik tells the legend of the Triforce
Sheik meets you in the Temple of Time and says all six sages are awake, so it is time to face Ganondorf. Listen to the legend before you go. The Triforce balances power, wisdom and courage, and if someone unworthy touches it, it splits into three. Ganondorf took only the Triforce of Power. The Triforce of Courage resides in the Hero of Time, which is you, and the Triforce of Wisdom is with a leader. Sit through the cutscene; nothing needs pressing until the next scene.

Zelda steps forward
Sheik lifts the Triforce and is revealed as Zelda, leader of the sages and princess of Hyrule. She apologises for hiding her identity and explains that she saw you at the castle gate on the day Ganondorf attacked, which is why she trusted you with the Ocarina of Time. She asks for your help once more, because the Demon King’s reign has to end. When she finishes, she has a gift for you.

Light Arrow
Zelda raises a ball of light and offers you the sacred Light Arrow. Link catches it and the box reads “You got the light arrow!” She adds that it imbues your arrows with sacred light that repels evil. The Light Arrow is the last arrow type and uses magic like the Fire and Ice Arrows. Every barrier trial ends with it, so bring the Fairy Bow and a full magic bar.

Ganondorf takes Zelda
As Zelda turns to lead you out, she senses something wrong. Ganondorf pulls her into a red crystal. He calls her a rebellious little princess who eluded him for seven years, and says he let you wander because he knew you would lead her to reveal herself. His only miscalculation was the power of the Triforce of Courage. He wants it and Zelda’s Triforce of Wisdom, and he tells you to prepare yourself because he is coming for you next. When control returns, walk out of the Temple of Time. Navi senses the evil power and says Ganondorf must be there with the princess.

Cross to Ganondorf’s Castle
Run along the ruined road toward the castle. Green fog fills the sky, and the Ganondorf’s Castle title card appears while you are still on the road. There is no fight here. Follow the path up the rocks toward the burning castle. Rauru’s voice reaches you as six sage orbs circle Link, telling you to save the imprisoned princess and defeat Ganondorf.

A rainbow light path forms in the green sky. Run up it into the castle while Rauru warns that Ganondorf is after the Triforce of Courage and that you will face many dangers inside, so proceed with caution. Past the gate, cross the dark red-carpeted halls until the Inside Ganondorf’s Castle title card appears.

The six barriers
Rauru explains the barriers
Rauru tells you Ganondorf is in the tower ahead, but powerful barriers block the way. They are fed by evil power from six places, and you must cleanse each place for the barriers to fall. The Event Update banner for the quest Light and Darkness shows again here, and you can open it from Threads of Time. The central hall has a door for each sage, and you can work through them one after another. This route goes Spirit, Forest, Water, Shadow, Fire and Light.

Spirit barrier (Nabooru)
Longshot across the first room
Take the first door and enter a room of stone statues. Equip the Longshot and aim it at the emblem in the ceiling; the “Fire” prompt appears when it locks on. It hauls you across to a green door on the far side. Open it when you land.

Business Scrub Seed
Two small fire creatures and a dark enemy attack in the next room, so switch to the Megaton Hammer and smash them. When they are gone, a blue pad glows on the floor and a chest rises on it. Open the chest on the stone platform. Link holds up a Business Scrub Seed, described as a seed that summons a Business Scrub and gives off the overpowering scent of business. Your seed count goes to 11. The game saves as you leave the room.

Break the cobweb above
Face the grated wall with the glowing yellow emblem, select a Bombchu and send it up to the emblem. The emblem turns green and the way on opens. Go through the green door and up the steps into the round room beyond. Equip the Fairy Bow and a normal arrow, then shoot the cobweb on the ceiling. A shaft of sunlight pours down onto the floor. A sun emblem hangs above a green door on the far wall, and the light has to reach it.

Mirror Shield on the sun emblem
Stand in the shaft and raise the Mirror Shield. While the light hits the shield, use the “Move Shield” prompt to tilt it and bounce the beam up onto the sun emblem. When the beam lands on the emblem, the door beneath it opens. Step through.

Light Arrow on the Spirit barrier
Beyond the door, a dark orb wrapped in purple energy floats on a dais. Navi worries that the evil power could swallow you if you get closer. Open the item menu, pick the Light Arrow and shoot the orb from a distance, holding to charge and releasing to fire. The orb bursts into light, and Nabooru appears to say the evil power never stood a chance. That clears the Spirit barrier.

Forest barrier (Saria)
Return to the hall
Nabooru’s seal room lets you out into the central hall, where a blue light column stands in front of the sealed door you just cleared. Cross the hall to the next sage door, the one for the Forest barrier. The game saves as you walk up to it, and you open the blue-grey door and step inside.

Fight the Wolfos
The Forest room is overgrown and dim. Wolfos leap out and charge you in the middle of a ring of statues. Lock on, raise the shield to block their claws and strike when they recover. After they fall, a blue pad glows on the floor and a chest waits in the next alcove.

Five Arrows
Open the chest. The box reads “You got five arrows!” and your quiver goes back to 50 out of 50. Then go up to the teal doorway ahead.

Hover Boots and the Lenses of Truth
The next room is a pit of hexagon-shaped stone platforms. Open the Equipment menu and equip the Hover Boots so you float briefly after leaving a ledge. Put the Lenses of Truth on to find footing that is not visible otherwise; the purple oval around the screen shows they are on. Before you cross, take out a Bomb, hold it and throw it at the growth on the far platform; the blast clears it. Step from platform to platform, using the hover to cover the gaps.

Play the Song of Time
Stand on a platform beside the wall, open the songbook and play the Song of Time. A blue block appears next to you. Climb onto it for the extra height and carry on to the next hexagon.

Cross with the Longshot
Equip the Longshot and use its “Fire” prompt to pull yourself between the far platforms, switching back to hovering where the gaps are short. A teal door under a green swirl emblem waits at the end. Open it and walk to the orb room.

Saria appears
Shoot the Light Arrow into the dark orb on the dais. A burst of golden light follows, and Saria appears in a green glow to say that the evil power here is gone and you can do it. The Forest barrier falls. A blue light column rises beside her, and you step into it to return to the hall.

Water barrier (Ruto)
Enter the ice room
Back in the central hall, save at the pad, then climb the gold-trimmed stairs to the next door. Open the blue door and go in. The Water trial is an ice cavern with frozen floors, red crystal ice that blocks routes and fog drifting across the ground.

Bombchus
A chest sits near the red crystal in the first cave, beside a pedestal of blue fire. Take the blue fire first (next step), melt the crystal, clear the ice stumps beside the chest with the Megaton Hammer and open it. Link holds up five Bombchus, and your Bombchu count goes from 17 to 22. The box tells you to turn toward a target and send one of these bombs on its way, since they can even climb walls.

Blue Fire
Walk up to the pedestal of cold blue flame. Select an Empty Bottle in the item menu and use “Take Out” to catch the flame. The box reads “You collected some blue fire in a bottle!” and explains that it can thaw ice no other fire can melt. Use “Use” to pour it over the red crystal by the chest and melt it. The pedestal refills, so take a second bottle of blue fire after the chest and keep it for the red ice ahead.

Melt the red ice and move the blocks
The next room is full of rune-marked ice blocks. Press A at a block to Grab it and push it across the floor onto the blue floor pad. When a red crystal blocks a passage, use the bottle with “Use” to pour the blue fire over it and melt it. Smash small obstacles with the Megaton Hammer. Keep at it until the way to the stone corridor is clear.

Ruto appears
Walk to the end of the dark corridor and shoot the Light Arrow into the orb. A pink burst fades to white, and Ruto’s spirit says the evil power has been defeated and asks you to help Sheik, meaning Princess Zelda. The Water barrier is down.

Shadow barrier (Impa)
Up the tower stairs
Go through the dark blue hall to the next door and take the stairs. A run of green-lit steps leads to a purple corridor and then to a blue door. Open it and step into the Shadow trial.

Shoot the far target
A lit stone brazier stands in a dark room, and a chest sits on a far ledge across a gap. Equip the Fairy Bow, hold an arrow in the brazier’s flame so its tip catches fire, and shoot it at the far torch across the gap. Once the far torch is lit, a path of square stone steps rises from the floor.

Five Arrows
Hop across the stone steps to the chest and open it. The box reads “You got five arrows!” The arrows you spent on the target come back.

Defeat the Like-Like
Go on to the next room, where a Like-Like waits among the stone blocks. Keep your distance, circle it and strike when it turns toward you. When it falls apart in a burst of purple flame, step onto the stone platforms beyond.

Lenses of Truth path to the chest
The path beyond is invisible without the Lenses of Truth. Put them on and the stones appear; walk along them, hopping when you reach a gap. A big chest sits on a ledge at the end of the walkway.

Golden Gauntlets
Open the chest and Link raises the Golden Gauntlets above his head. The box says you found them and tells you that you can feel power coursing through your arms, letting you lift even the heaviest of objects. They are the only new piece of equipment in the castle. Navi chimes in that they are so pretty.

Pick up the gold-marked pillar
A tall stone pillar with gold markings blocks the walkway. Walk up to it and shove it with the new Gauntlets. It topples across the gap and forms a bridge to the next platform. Cross it and keep going along the walkway.

Altar and the orb
Use the Lenses of Truth again to follow the invisible stones to the purple altar. A dark orb waits at the end of the walkway. Shoot the Light Arrow into it. A golden burst clears the barrier, and Impa appears in a purple glow to say the evil power has been dispelled and to ask you to rescue Her Highness quickly.

Great Fairy of Courage
Leave the castle by the cliff
With four barriers down, go back out to the green cliffs. In the hall, push the gold-marked pillar with the Gauntlets so it topples out of your way, then run down the stairs and out through the red-carpeted halls. The Ganondorf’s Castle title card appears when you step back outside. Follow the rainbow light path down, then the rock face to a cave. Walk through the teal mist until a gold-and-white archway opens onto a fairy fountain.

Great Fairy of Courage
Stand in front of the fountain, open the songbook and play Zelda’s Lullaby. White mist fills the room and the Great Fairy of Courage appears. She notices you already have Great Fairy power and asks for a small offering. Pay 500 rupees, which takes your wallet from 977 to 477. She laughs that you are rich and offers you a new power.

Gift of halved damage
Purple sparkles flow into Link. The box reads “You got the gift of halved damage!” and tells you your defensive ability has been enhanced. Any damage you take is now halved. She mentions that you have met all her sisters and says you can return whenever you feel weary. Then walk back out through the mist toward the castle.

Retrace the cliff path, run back up the rainbow light path and cross the green-lit bridge into the castle. The Inside Ganondorf’s Castle title card returns as you step back inside.

Fire barrier (Darunia)
Stone blocks over lava
Cross the red-carpet hall to the Fire door and go in. Put on the Goron Tunic in the Equipment menu, because the room beyond is a lake of lava. Hop from stone block to stone block, and use the Longshot on the blue crystal targets where the gaps are too wide.

Pillar bridge
A tall pillar marked with gold runes stands on one of the blocks. Use “Pick Up” and shove it with the Golden Gauntlets; it falls into the lava and becomes a stone slab you can walk over. Continue along the new path to the last block.

Longshot to the red door
The red door ahead is sealed behind lava. Equip the Longshot and fire at the target above the doorway with the “Fire” prompt. You fly across to the ledge. Open the door and walk into the purple-lit hall.

Darunia appears
Shoot the Light Arrow into the purple orb at the end of the hall. The burst fades to white, and Darunia’s golden spirit tells you that you did a good job getting rid of the evil power and that it is time to defeat Ganondorf, his brother. The Fire barrier is gone.

Light barrier (Rauru)
Push the pillar to the Light door
Switch back to the Hero’s Clothes in the Equipment menu and cross the dark corridor to the door with the blue Triforce emblem. A gold-marked pillar stands in the way; push it with the Gauntlets until it falls clear. The door behind it leads into the Light trial.

Blue and red rupees
The first room is a dark chest room. Put on the Lenses of Truth and fend off the enemies with the Megaton Hammer, then switch to the Fairy Bow and shoot the one hanging near the ceiling. A blue pad glows and another chest rises. Three of the chests hold a blue rupee worth 5, and another holds a red rupee worth 20. Save at the pad before the next door.

Small Key
Open the next chest to find a small key. Your key count goes to 1. Keep it for the locked door in the next room.

Zelda’s Lullaby chest
In the checkered room, stand on the Triforce tile and play Zelda’s Lullaby. A chest rises on the tile and holds a green rupee. After collecting it, walk to the locked door and use the small key on it. Your key count returns to 0.

Stone sphere room
Large stone spheres roll about the next room under arched windows. Equip the Longshot and fire at the emblem in the ceiling to pull yourself past them, and watch for another target above the teal door at the end. Then go through.

Fight and Light Arrow
A group of enemies attacks in the hall beyond, so clear them with your sword and shield and break the pots for rupees. At the end of the hall, a dark orb hangs over a stair. Shoot the Light Arrow into it.

Rauru appears
A golden light fills the room and Rauru, the Sage of Light, says the evil power has been put asunder and urges you to save Princess Zelda. Climb the stairs to the dark arena in front of the tower. The last barriers collapse around the doorway, and Rauru tells you they have all vanished and that it is time to go to the tower.

The Light and Darkness banner shows again in the Event Update as you cross the arena. Climb the stairs to the red-carpeted hall at the top.
