Her True Self is the fourth scenario of Linkle’s Tale. A black crystal turns Midna into her true Twili form, and she and Linkle enter the Palace of Twilight to rescue Zelda. You win by capturing the keeps, defeating Dark Zant, opening the Enemy Base with Twili Midna and beating Dark Twili Midna. Clearing it opens The Other Hero.

Table of Contents
Before you start
You control Linkle and Twili Midna, and you can only play Twili Midna here, so take her Heart Container on this visit or in a replay of this scenario. Linkle must be your character for the Piece of Heart and the Hard or Hero Gold Skulltula. If Zelda flees or the Allied Base falls, you lose.

Capture the keeps
Take the West and East Palace Entrance Keeps
Your first task is to capture both the West and East Palace Entrance Keeps. Linkle covers the west one and Twili Midna goes east. Splitting up saves time, but check the map regularly because the dark forces will retake keeps.

Defeat the Rally and Fortifier Captains
Once the fight is on, a Rally Captain shows up east of the palace near an Owl Statue, and Fortifier Captains move toward West Square Keep and North Palace Keep to strengthen the Twilight magic. Defeat all of them, because the Enemy Base will not open until they are gone.

Weaken Dark Zant
The gatekeeper guarding the Enemy Base turns out to be Dark Zant. Capturing every keep in the surrounding area weakens him, so take as many as you can before you attack. Dark Twili Midna sends dark reinforcements to retake keeps over time, and when only one keep is left the Southwest Square Keep opens and sends an army toward your Allied Base.

Escort the Messengers
Messengers then appear and must reach the Central Square and Fairy Fountain Keeps to call reinforcements. Protect them, because Dark Aeralfos target the Messengers first and then the Allied Base if nobody stops them. Take down the Aeralfos before they do damage.

Dark Zant
With the keeps secured, Dark Zant loses his boosted power and becomes the main target. Defeat him, though the Enemy Base still will not open on its own, so have Midna open it next. If you captured all the keeps, he is noticeably easier to take down.

Dark Twili Midna boss fight
Defeating Dark Zant is not enough: the doors only open when Twili Midna stands in front of the Enemy Base, so move her to the south gate. Inside, Dark Twili Midna is draining Zelda. Twili Midna restores some of Zelda’s strength, and with Linkle’s compass glowing you fight Dark Twili Midna. Keep Zelda safe, keep moving to avoid her attacks, and use special attacks whenever you can. After she falls, Midna smashes the crystal and reverts to her imp form.

Her True Self Gold Skulltulas
Gold Skulltula for 1000 KOs
Available on any difficulty. Defeat 1000 enemies, then go to the boulder just west of Upper Level East and break it open for the Skulltula.

Gold Skulltula on Hard or Hero
Play as Linkle on Hard or Hero and open the Enemy Base before Zelda is in danger, which means beating Dark Zant quickly. The Skulltula is south of West Square. These Skulltulas only appear after you clear all of Legend Mode, so return later if needed.

Heart Container and Piece of Heart
Heart Container
Play as Twili Midna and break the boulder just north of Southwest Square. The Heart Container is beneath it.

Piece of Heart
Play as Linkle and capture Upper Level East. The chest that appears holds the Piece of Heart.

Rewards and what unlocks next
| Collectible | Warrior / condition | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Skulltula | Defeat 1000 enemies | Under a boulder just west of Upper Level East |
| Skulltula (Hard or Hero) | open the Enemy Base before is in danger | South of West Square |
| of Heart | Upper Level East | |
| Container | Midna | Beneath a boulder just north of Southwest Square |
The last stop in Linkle’s Tale is The Other Hero.
