In Chapter 1 of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll guide Princess Zelda from a dramatic castle escape to the lush Suthorn region. This chapter covers the Mysterious Rifts main quest through Suthorn Beach, Suthorn Village, Suthorn Forest, and into the Still World version of the forest. By the end, you’ll complete the first dungeon (Suthorn Ruins) and defeat its boss. Below is a step-by-step guide with puzzle solutions, combat tips, hidden items, and key story beats to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

Suthorn Beach and Suthorn Village

On the beach, head east along the sand learning your first combat echoes. The Rock you just picked up is your first throwable weapon. The Sea Urchin is a static spiky blocker that still kills things all game long. The Zol is a weak slime that costs almost nothing to summon, which makes it a great early attacker. Stack Old Beds to climb the beach ledges; one leads up to a chest with 20 rupees.

Climb off the beach through a side-on cave (it holds a Piece of Heart; see the collectibles below), cross Suthorn Prairie, and follow the path into Suthorn Village. The kids’ Trampoline by the houses is an echo, and so are the Meat and the Pot inside the cottages. Villagers tell you a neighbor was swallowed by a rift and wish Link, a young swordsman from this village, were here. The Suthorn Shop sells a Piece of Heart for 80 rupees; buy it as soon as you have the cash.

Before leaving, climb down the village well to the Bottom of the Well, a tiny cave with a pool and a bed. Smash the pots for an electro apple and open the chest for 5 jars of Floral Nectar. No side quests open in Suthorn yet; the full list of quests and when they unlock is on the side quests page.

Mending the Suthorn Forest Rift

Leave the village back into Suthorn Prairie and learn the Sign echo from a signpost. Just past it, check the Waypoint stone; Tri explains that recorded waypoints let you warp back later. Continue into Suthorn Forest, where a villager stands at the edge of a huge rift calling for his wife. Fight through the forest (Spear Moblins, and side caves holding the Fairy Bottle and a Piece of Heart, covered below) to a hut at the far edge, where the rift blocks the door. Follow the rift’s edge around to a cliff overlooking it, and Tri will open an entrance into the Still World: a frozen snapshot of the forest shattered into floating islands.

Inside the Stilled Suthorn Forest, Tri explains that people pulled into rifts turn to stone, and you pass petrified villagers along the way. Bridge the island gaps with Old Beds and fight the monsters on the islands. The islands lead to the entrance of Suthorn Ruins, standing on its own floating island: the same ruins where Link fought Ganon in the prologue. Tri’s friends are trapped inside, and freeing them is what mends the rift.

Suthorn Ruins Dungeon

The dungeon has its own page, Suthorn Ruins, from the entrance to the Seismic Talus boss fight. The collectibles below cover the whole region.

Suthorn Collectibles

Suthorn holds five Pieces of Heart, a Fairy Bottle, the Heart Pin, and a pile of early echoes.

Suthorn holds five Pieces of Heart, a Fairy Bottle, the Heart Pin, and a pile of early echoes. Here’s how to walk away with all of it.

Piece of Heart 1: the tide-pool pillar

East along Suthorn Beach, the shore breaks into tide pools dotted with stone pillars, and Sea Urchins guard the water. Learn the Sea Urchin echo, then swim and bridge from pillar to pillar with Old Beds. The piece sits on top of the far pillar.

Piece of Heart 2: the beach cave

Past the tide pools, a walled clearing leads to a cave door. Inside is a side-on cave with ladders, crates, and Keese (learn the Keese echo here). Stack echoes to climb up, then drop down to the low ledge at the bottom right where the piece sits.

Piece of Heart 3: the village shop

In Suthorn Village, the shop sells a Piece of Heart for 80 rupees. If you’re short, go smash pots and cut grass along the beach; the Rupee drops add up fast. Buy it now rather than later, since money gets tighter once bigger shop items appear.

The Fairy Bottle: the Ignizol cave

Early in Suthorn Forest, a cave sits beside a pond. Inside, fire Zols crawl through a red-rock cave. Learn the Ignizol echo from one, then use it to burn down the field of tall grass blocking the way to a chest holding a Fairy Bottle. Later in the forest, past the Caromadillo cave, dive into a pond to catch a fairy in the bottle; it revives you automatically if your hearts run out.

Piece of Heart 4: the Caromadillo cave

Further along the forest paths, a side-on red-rock cave holds Caromadillos (learn the Caromadillo echo). Burn the grass with an Ignizol and climb through with echoes; the piece sits on a grassy ledge at the end. With the three pieces from the beach and shop, it completes your first new heart.

Piece of Heart 5: the prairie pillar

After the dungeon, the prairie ponds near Lueburry’s house have a stone pillar with the piece sitting on top. Wade in and climb up with Old Beds and a Trampoline. While you’re here, help Verley, who is stuck on a wall surrounded by monsters, for the side quest Up a Wall, and clear the crates and boulders blocking the ranch shortcut for the side quest The Blocked Road (20 rupees).

Might Crystals

Tri hands over 5 after the Seismic Talus, once her friends are freed. Another sits underwater in the prairie ponds near Piece of Heart 5; swim around until you find it. Nothing here is missable, so grab what’s convenient and sweep the rest with the Might Bell later.

Echoes to scan before you leave

In the village: the Trampoline by the houses and the Meat inside a cottage (useful as bait for luring enemies). On the prairie path: the Sign. In the forest: Ignizol, Rope, Caromadillo, the Spear Moblin for a ranged attacker, the Brazier, and the Peahat. From the ruins you should already have Strandtula and Darknut. If any of these are missing, grab them now; they’re the backbone of early-game traversal.
