Kokiri Forest after the Great Deku Tree
Leave the Great Deku Tree
Once the Great Deku Tree finishes speaking, the Kokiri Emerald appears in the stone slot of your Key Items screen. Listen to his last request: go to Hyrule Castle, find the princess he calls the one chosen by divine powers, and let her guide you. Navi says goodbye to him with you, then you walk down the path and over the log bridge. Navi reminds you that the castle is next, and the screen fades out on the way back to the village.

Talk to Mido and Saria
The banner Kokiri Forest appears as you arrive. Mido and Saria are standing together just inside the village. Mido says he is going to check on the Great Deku Tree, then spots you and demands to know what happened. Saria asks the same. She is stunned to hear the Deku Tree is gone and that you have to leave, since the Kokiri are not meant to go beyond the forest. You get no item here, but the scene has to play out before you can move on.

Stop by the Kokiri Shop
Walk past the Kokiri Shop and step inside. The shopkeeper has heard the news and tells you to stock up before you go. He adds that if you ever lose your Deku Shield outside the forest, you can come back here to buy another. You do not need to buy anything for the route ahead, so leave when you are ready.

Say goodbye to Saria and Mido
Talk to the Kokiri you pass on the way to Mido’s house. A girl near the shop says she cannot believe the Great Deku Tree is gone, Fado says the forest changed the moment he departed and that he has a bad feeling about it, and another Kokiri asks whether the Great Deku Tree really withered away. None of them gives you anything.

Then go into Mido’s house and speak to him. He is stunned by the news, and he reminds you to check your map whenever you get turned around. Leave by the tunnel on the far side of the village, where Mido catches up with you again. He insists it has to be a lie, then accepts that this was the Great Deku Tree’s last request, and he makes you promise to come straight home if anything goes wrong.

Lost Woods and the Fairy Ocarina
Follow the path to Saria
Keep going through the dark tunnel, past the wooden sign with its strange writing, until you reach Saria waiting among the thick roots of the Lost Woods. She admits she always knew you would leave one day, and she says you are different from the other Kokiri. Let her finish. She has something she has been making for you.

Fairy Ocarina
Saria offers you her handmade ocarina. Accept it. She plays a short tune to show you how it works, and asks you to think of the forest and come back whenever you play it. Then the message “You were given a Fairy Ocarina!” appears. It shows up on your HUD afterward.

Walk out to Hyrule Field
Saria stays behind and you leave the Lost Woods alone. Follow the fog-covered dirt path through the narrow gap in the rocks until the trees open up. A banner announces Hyrule Field, and the wide plain stretches out in front of you.

Hyrule Field, first crossing
Kaepora Gaebora
Follow the path along the ridge until you see an owl perched on a tree branch. Talk to Kaepora Gaebora, whose name card appears as he introduces himself and offers his counsel. He tells you that the road leads to the castle, where you will meet a certain princess, and he reminds you to recall the Great Deku Tree’s words. He flies ahead to wait for you at Hyrule Castle.

Threads of Time and Princess of Hyrule Castle
When the owl leaves, the Threads of Time tab opens in your pause menu. It adds the quest Princess of Hyrule Castle with the goal “Head to Hyrule Castle,” and it lists Link Wakes Up and The Great Deku Tree as complete. The tab also lets you reread the story so far and open the tapestry.

Cross the field to Hyrule Castle Town
Stay on the road and follow the quest marker toward the castle. You pass a wooden fence, grassy slopes, trees and a stone signpost, and you can use the Fairy Slingshot with the prompt Shoot Seed if you want to try it on the way. At the end of the road, cross the drawbridge and enter the gate. The banner Hyrule Castle Town appears as you pass through.
