Hyrule Castle Town is the first stop after you leave Hyrule Field with the Kokiri Emerald. Here you take Gold Skulltula #5 in the guard house, win the Bigger Deku-Seed Bag at the Shooting Gallery and get your first Empty Bottle at the Potion Shop. Then you look into the Temple of Time and take the road up to Hyrule Castle.

Town gate and guard house

Talk to the gate guard

Walk through the town gate and the area banner for Hyrule Castle Town appears. The guard just inside will answer questions about the town if you ask. He tells you the town sits just below Hyrule Castle and is a peaceful place, and that is all there is to learn. Move on into the plaza.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #5 in the guard house

Go through the door of the guard house near the gate and into the storeroom full of pots. Smash them for rupees, then slash the stack of wooden crates against the wall. A Gold Skulltula token drops out beside them, and picking it up gives you Gold Skulltula #5. The numbering and the other tokens are on the Gold Skulltula page.

Step back out through the guard hall. A guard there mutters that the town could use more chaos, and that is all you get from him. Back on the street, a milk seller tells you that Lon Lon Ranch lies beyond the town gate and that its owner Talon and his daughter have not been back from the castle. Malon waits at the castle in the next chapter.

Streets and back alleys

Directions from the old woman

An elderly townsperson in the plaza offers directions to Hyrule Castle. Pick either answer: the route is straight through the fountain plaza. The same person warns you about the Sheikah, the secretive clan that serves the royal family, and says they will not go easy on a child. Your reply changes nothing.

Walk the back alley

Take the side street toward the back alley. A bearded man here boasts about his beard and mentions that Talon runs Lon Lon Ranch. Go through the alley doors to look inside the houses: you find a bedroom, a red-carpeted room and two women who talk to their dog. A door with a lantern belongs to a shop whose keeper is asleep, so it stays shut. There is nothing to collect by day, but you will want the alley again after dark.

The bottle buyer

A shopkeeper in the market wants to buy bottled things, such as fish. With no bottle, you cannot sell him anything, and he sends you to the Potion Shop to get an empty one. Do that first.

Bombchu Bowling Alley

Open the door of the Bombchu Bowling Alley and talk to the attendant. The attendant will not let you play, since the alley has not received its Bombchu deliveries from Goron City, and explains that Bombchus are bombs that travel and can climb walls. You cannot do anything here until you own Bombchus, so come back later.

Bazaar

Walk into the Bazaar tent in the plaza. The owner sells a Magic Jar for 10 rupees, a pack of 10 Arrows for 20 rupees, a pack of Five Bombs and a Hylian Shield for 80 rupees. The arrows need a bow and the bombs need a bomb bag before you may buy them. You have no use for any of it yet, so leave and keep at least 10 rupees for the next stop.

Bigger Deku-Seed Bag

Cross the fountain plaza and enter the Shooting Gallery. The operator charges 10 rupees per round and lends you 15 Deku Seeds to shoot ten targets with your Slingshot. Stand in front of the counter, wait for the countdown and shoot every target that pops up. A miss ends the round with a score such as 9 out of 10, and the operator lets you try again for free. You need all 10.

When the counter shows 10 out of 10 and the screen reads CLEARED, the operator hands over your prize. You got a bigger Deku-seed bag, which lets you carry up to 40 Deku Seeds. See the capacity upgrades page for the remaining bags and quivers.

Expert game

Talk to the operator once more and he offers a harder version of the game, as a repeat customer. He promises 20 rupees for the basic version and 30 rupees for the expert version, and you again get 15 shots. These rounds are optional, so skip them unless you want spending money.

Potion Shop

Empty Bottle

Empty Bottle

Enter the Potion Shop in the market. As you step in, the shopkeeper cries out that a bug has escaped and begs you to use his empty bottle to catch it. Choose Leave it to me! and you receive an Empty Bottle, the first of five. Open the Items screen to read its description and assign it to a button.

Bug

Catch the bug

Chase the bug around the shop floor. Move up to it, hold the bottle out and press the button you gave it. The bug is quick, so corner it by the wall or pots. Once you have it, the message reads that you collected a bug in a bottle. The shopkeeper praises the capture and rewards you with the shop’s signature product, a Red Potion, sealed in your bottle.

What the shop sells

Talk to the shopkeeper afterward and he lets you browse. The shelves hold a Red Potion, Half-Full Lon Lon Milk, a Fairy, a Bug for 30 rupees and a Fish for 50 rupees. Each one needs an empty bottle to carry it. He also says that he will sell you more potions if your bottle ever runs dry. A woman in the back room of the shop is in the middle of a dance practice, but she has nothing for you.

Temple of Time first look

Head to the Temple of Time from the plaza and go inside. The banner appears as you step inside, and the hall is large and empty. The Door of Time stands at the far end of the red carpet, and an on-screen note says it opens only to a song protected by the royal family. Nothing to do here yet, so go back out into the market.

The road to Hyrule Castle

From the plaza, follow the road to the castle, passing market vendors and a girl who lets you pick up her cucco. Nothing here needs doing. The Hyrule Castle banner appears at the top of the road, where Kaepora Gaebora perches.
