The Graveyard sits behind Kakariko Village, and most of what you want here happens at night. Pay Dampé to dig for you in the tombstone square and you can walk away with a Heart Piece. Then play Zelda’s Lullaby at the harp-shaped headstone, calm the two ghostly composers who haunt the place, descend into the Royal Family’s Tomb and learn the Sun’s Song from the stone tablet at the bottom.

Reaching the Graveyard at night
Enter the Graveyard
Leave Kakariko Village after sunset, go down the stone steps past the house with the red door and follow the fog to the arch at the far end. A banner reads Graveyard as you cross it. Dampé only runs his tour at night. Walk up the stone path between the headstones and read the plaque you pass about the Sheikah watching over their clan.

Dampé’s Grave-Diggin’ Tour
Talk to Dampé
The Grave-Diggin’ Tour! appears as a banner when you reach the tombstone square, and Dampé the gravekeeper is waiting there. Talk to him and let him finish his pitch. He marks out digging spots on the ground, and once you stand next to one he will dig it for you. Each dig costs 10 Rupees, so check your wallet first. Your wallet holds up to 500 Rupees once you have the Adult’s Wallet, and a few dozen is enough for this.

Pay for each dig
Stand beside a mound of loose soil and press the button to talk to Dampé. He asks whether you want to dig there for 10 Rupees. Pick Let’s dig!, or choose I’ll pick another spot to try a different mound first. After you pay he fetches his shovel and tells you to give him a minute. Some mounds are harder to dig, and Dampé then demands an extra 5 or 10 Rupees before he starts.

The first mound is one of those, so it costs 15 Rupees in all, and it turns up nothing. The second spot rewards you with a blue Rupee. The third one throws up a red Rupee, which Dampé announces is worth 20 Rupees. Rupees are not the goal, but the lucky digs repay part of what you spent, so keep going.

Heart Piece #2
Take the fourth spot. Dampé says it looks tough and asks for an extra 10 Rupees on top of the 10, so it costs 20 in all. Pay up and watch him work. When he hits something he says “Hoo-whee! We got ourselves a big win!” and a Heart Piece floats out of the soil. Walk up and press A to pick it up; Dampé tells you to take it, and the item box says four pieces form one container. This is Heart Piece #2.

The harp-shaped headstone and the ghost composers
Find the Tomb of the Royal Composers
Walk into the quiet corner beyond the digging spots and look for a headstone topped with a stone harp. Its inscription marks the Tomb of the Royal Composers, faithful servants to the Royal Family. Check it and Navi tells you about the man buried there. Ghosts carrying lanterns drift around this part of the Graveyard, so be ready for a fight in the dark.

Shoot the ghosts with the Slingshot
The ghosts here shrug off close attacks. Lock on, then use the Slingshot and fire Deku Seeds at them when the Shoot Seed prompt appears. Keep moving, because they throw rings of flame, and fire again as soon as you can see them. Hits make them stop and talk instead of running away, which is how you get their story out of them.

Play Zelda’s Lullaby at the headstone
Stand at the harp headstone and open the songbook: you can use Check songbook to see the notes, then choose Play a note. Play Zelda’s Lullaby and a pink glow fills the screen. Lightning cracks across the sky and strikes the tall crest-marked monument. Near it a Triforce slab lies in front of a freshly opened stairway into the ground, but the ghosts still need your attention first.

Sharp the Elder
Approach the pink glow over another harp headstone. It is a ghost named Sharp the Elder. Hit him with the Slingshot until he gives up with “Guhhh! I’m done for!” He explains that he and his brother were composers for the royal family and hid their special song from Ganondorf. Ask about the special song and he refuses to share details with a stranger, but says an envoy of the royal family should prove themselves at the royal family’s tomb. When he sees that the tomb is open he decides you serve the royal family after all.

Flat the Younger
Flat the Younger, a green ghost, haunts a harp headstone on the way to the crypt. Fire Deku Seeds at him until he stops. His story matches his brother’s, and he is just as reluctant to tell it: his brother told him not to say anything unnecessary. Once he sees the open tomb he tells you the music score is inside, scolds you for pestering ghosts, and says to ask his older brother Sharp if you need anything. When he vanishes, the way into the tomb is yours.

Royal Family’s Tomb
Go down the stairs
Walk down the steps into the Royal Family’s Tomb. A Triforce crest is carved on the first door. Push it open and you reach a wide dim hall with sealed purple doors and cracked flooring. Enemies attack in the dark here, so keep the Slingshot ready and fire Deku Seeds at them when the Shoot Seed prompt shows.

Cross the hall to the carved doorway on the far side, where a second Triforce crest door waits. Push it open to reach a room of glowing green gas and a slick green pool. Do not wade through the pool, since it drains your hearts fast. Stay on the stone walkways, keep moving and avoid the tall undead figure that lurks in this room.

Read the stone tablet
Follow the walkway through the pool room to a chamber at the end of the corridor, where a stone tablet rests under a green light. Navi tells you something is written on it. The poem says the rising sun will someday set, then speaks of turning from sun to moon and moon to sun, and asks you to give peaceful rest to the living dead. A music score is carved beneath the text.

Sun’s Song
Read the score and the item box tells you to keep the Sun’s Song in your heart. Play the notes A, R, X, A, R, X on the ocarina at the tablet. Golden light surrounds Link and the box reads “You played the Sun’s Song!” You now have the Sun’s Song in your songbook. The ocarina songs page lists every use of it. The chest with the Hylian Shield near this area is picked up in the Kakariko Village chapter.
