Gerudo Valley is a one-way canyon with a locked gate at the end, so you are here for the pickups. Carry Cucco across the gaps to reach a chest holding a Heart Piece, play Epona’s Song to Miss Moo for a bottle of milk, climb the cliff stairs to a second Heart Piece, then dive into the pool for a Gold Skulltula token.

Gerudo Valley entrance and the chest ledge

Cross the canyon floor

Enter Gerudo Valley from Hyrule Field and follow the sandy path through the canyon. The Gerudo Valley banner appears as you come off the plank bridge at the entrance. Keep heading along the canyon floor, climb the low ledges and cross the wooden planks laid over the gullies. A Cucco wanders the path further on, near a ledge that is too far to jump.

Piece of Heart

Heart Piece #4: chest on the cliff ledge

Pick up the Cucco with A, walk to the edge of the drop and let it carry you across. Hold the Cucco and jump, then steer in the air so you land on the rock shelf on the far side. A chest sits against the wall there. Open it for a Piece of Heart. This is your fourth piece, so the game turns the four pieces into an extra heart container and refills all your hearts.

Gerudo Valley to the fortress gate

Cucco

Cucco across the ledges

Another Cucco wanders the next ledge. Pick it up again and glide over the stepped gaps in the rock, working your way along the canyon wall toward the rope bridge. Set it down with A once you are on solid ground, and walk across the bridge to the wooden gate at the far end of the valley.

Talk to the Gerudo guard

A Gerudo guard stands behind the barricade and turns you away: only Gerudo may pass. She says the Gerudo king has declared that no outsiders may enter. Asking about Ganondorf gets you a short lecture on calling him “the mighty Ganondorf”, then she tells you to get lost. The gate stays shut for now. You come back for it as an adult, in Gerudo Fortress.

Miss Moo and the waterfall pasture

Glide down to the cow pasture

Leave the gate, walk back over the rope bridge and cross the plank bridge that follows. Pick up a Cucco at the cliff edge and jump into the gorge beside the waterfall. Glide down toward the green ledge by the pool at the base of the falls. A Gerudo woman is standing there with a cow.

Play Epona’s Song to Miss Moo

The woman is fussing over her cow and is startled that you found the place. Talk to her and let her finish. She says she fell for the cow, Li’l Miss Moo, at Lon Lon Ranch and has secretly looked after her here ever since. She also says the cow will only give milk if you play a song she likes. Open the song menu, choose Epona’s Song and play it as the staff shows: X, Y, A, X, Y, A. The woman gushes that the song has lifted her spirits and offers to share the milk.

Lon Lon Milk

Lon Lon milk

With an empty bottle ready, you receive some Lon Lon milk. Keep it for a refill of hearts later. See the bottle locations page for the others.

Cliff stairs and the sealed room

Piece of Heart

Heart Piece #5: room at the top of the stairs

Leave the pasture along the cliff path above the stream and take the stone staircase that climbs the canyon wall. The steps end in a narrow doorway into a small wooden chamber lit by a single beam of light. Walk to the middle and take the Piece of Heart. The message reads “You got a Piece of Heart!”, then tells you four pieces form one container.

Gold Skulltula behind the waterfall

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #15: bug on the soft soil

Come back down the cliff to the pool below the waterfall, jump in and hold the Dive button to swim down into a dark cavity. A rocky shelf under the water has a patch of loose soil. Navi cautions you to be careful and your hearts start to drain, so work quickly. Stand on the soil and use the bottled bug to release it. A Gold Skulltula token pops out, bringing you to 15 tokens in total. Swim out through the stream afterward.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #67 in the valley

One more token hangs on the rock arch beside the canyon path, but only adult Link can reach it. It is covered with the Master Craftsman errand in The Biggoron Sword Route.
