Before the Temple of Time, the child quest has one long list of loose ends, and you clear them all here. Sweep eight Gold Skulltula tokens from Zora Fountain to Kakariko Village, collect the wallet and 20 Bombchus from the Cursed Rich Man, buy and earn two Deku-nut bags, sell masks until the Happy Mask Shop lends you the Mask of Truth, plant five Magic Beans, then ride the owl to Hyrule Castle at night.

Zora Fountain and Zora Domain

Play the Sun’s Song at Zora Fountain

With Lord Jabu-Jabu behind you, you stand on the Zora Fountain shore in daylight, and Gold Skulltulas only show themselves at night. Open the songbook, choose the Sun’s Song and play it. The sky turns to evening at once. Follow the shoreline toward the old stone arch, then cross the mossy ground beyond it until a narrow walkway of stone slabs leads into a dark rock alcove.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #35

Walk to the end of the slab walkway and look up at the rock wall until the targeting marker settles on a faint glint. Throw the Boomerang with ZR and it knocks the Skulltula loose. The token drops in a beam of light onto the slab where you stand. The message reads “You’ve collected 35 tokens so far.”

Princess Ruto

Ruto and King Zora

Follow the path into Zora Domain and walk up to the throne room. Ruto speaks first about the Spiritual Stone her mother gave her and about the secret you now share. King Zora then addresses you from his throne and scolds his daughter for going off alone into Lord Jabu-Jabu. Afterward a royal attendant tells you in the hall that all of this is thanks to you. These are conversations only, so leave when you are done.

Fresh fish in a bottle

Head back out along the cave passage toward the signpost for Lord Jabu-Jabu, where torches light a shallow pool. With a bottle ready in the item menu, take it out beside the water and scoop up a fish. The message “You collected a fresh fish in a bottle!” appears. Keep it, because the Buyer in Hyrule Castle Town pays 30 rupees for it later in this chapter.

Lake Hylia and Lon Lon Ranch

Swim out to Lake Hylia

Leave the pool through the cave that runs along the cliff and drop into the stream. Dive with the hold prompt, follow the tiled underwater passage and let it carry you out into Lake Hylia. The area banner confirms the lake, and a hint reads “Treasure…somewhere?”. Swim to the shore on the side where a house with lit windows stands.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #36

Climb out beside the lit lakeside building. A Skulltula clings to the tall pillar by its wall. Lock on, throw the Boomerang, and the token falls onto the wooden pier below. Pick it up to reach 36 tokens. The night from your Sun’s Song is still in effect, so you do not need to play it again here.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #37

Run across Hyrule Field in the dark, past the long fences, to the entrance of Lon Lon Ranch. Stop in the yard before the ranch house and look at the wooden wall above the entrance arch. A Skulltula sits near the window. Throw the Boomerang to knock it down and take the token. The message gives 37 tokens so far.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #38

Cross the ranch fields to the stone tower and walk in through its door. Inside, open the songbook and play the Sun’s Song so that night falls, then look up toward the opening in the roof and lock on to the Skulltula in the vines. Throw the Boomerang, then walk to the stacked crates in the storeroom where the token lands. The count rises to 38.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #42

Back in Hyrule Field, head directly west of the Kokiri Forest entrance to the lone skinny tree by the end of the river. Dash and roll into the trunk to knock the Gold Skulltula loose, then defeat it and take the token.

Lost Woods: the Business Scrubs

Bigger Deku-Nut Bag

Leave the ranch by the road toward the forest and enter the Lost Woods. Follow the dark tunnels, blow open the cracked boulder with a bomb, and step on the save flower past it. Beyond lies a glade where two Business Scrubs stand among the leaves. Beat the first one and it apologizes for attacking you, then offers a bag that carries more Deku nuts for 40 rupees. Choose “I’ll buy!” to receive the bigger Deku-nut bag, which fits up to 30 nuts.

The second scrub sells the usual Lost Woods stock: ten or thirty Deku seeds and a magic jar. You do not need any of it now, so choose “See you later.” Climb out through the mossy cave past the save flower and emerge in Kokiri Forest, where the area banner appears.

Hyrule Field and Gerudo Valley

Play the Sun’s Song in the grove

Run out of Kokiri Forest into Hyrule Field in broad daylight and follow the grassy slope toward the tree grove. A large spiky flying plant attacks there, so deal with it using your sword or a Spin Attack wave. In the quiet glade beyond, open the songbook and play the Sun’s Song. Day turns to night, and you can set out for the cliffs.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #39

Walk the dark path along the cliffs to a cave mouth thick with webs. A large Skulltula hangs inside, so lock on and finish it with the sword and a spin attack. Look at the web wall beside it and target the glint, then throw the Boomerang. The token drops in the beam to make 39. A save flower waits a few steps farther on.

Cow cave and Epona’s Song

Cross the night field toward the canyon, past a pair of Stalfos, until you reach a large boulder with a bomb at its foot. Pick up a bomb and set it against the boulder. Drop down the hole beyond into a red rock cave, step on the save flower, and defeat the Skulltula that hangs near the web wall.

Farther in, a cow stands in a cave pen. Open the songbook and play Epona’s Song to it. It praises the song but warns that it will not give its milk to someone carrying nothing to hold it. You need an empty bottle for that, so leave the milk for a later visit and walk back out through the canyon.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #40

Follow the canyon into Gerudo Valley and climb the wooden stairs beside the waterfall, then cross the plank path to the water at its foot. Open the songbook and play the Sun’s Song beside the waterfall so that night falls. Walk on to the dark stone wall by the river channel and target the glint above you. Throw the Boomerang to claim token 40, and Navi chimes in with “That’s 40 now!”

Kakariko Village: the House of Skulltula

Giant's Wallet

Giant’s Wallet

Take the road across Hyrule Field to Kakariko Village in daylight and go in through the blue door of the House of Skulltula. The Cursed Rich Man says you have made strides to help him and his sons, counts your 30 Gold Skulltula tokens and hands over a gift. The message reads “What an absolutely humongous wallet! It’s big enough to hold 1,000 rupees!” His restored third son confirms the new limit, and the Rich Man names 40 tokens as the next goal.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #41

Leave the house and climb the stone steps past the village well to the passage with the wooden door. Open the songbook and play the Sun’s Song so night falls. Look up at the stone wall beside the passage and target the glint. Throw the Boomerang, collect the token, and the message gives 41 tokens so far.

Bombchu

20 Bombchus

Run back down the village and through the House of Skulltula door again. The Cursed Rich Man says the curse on his children has weakened and gives you 20 Bombchus. The item message explains that they climb walls when you aim and send them off. His restored second son adds that you should be careful in small rooms, because a Bombchu running around the ceiling can blow up behind you.

Hyrule Castle Town: the Buyer and the Happy Mask Shop

Rupees from the guard house pots

Head out of Kakariko and through the town gate at night into Hyrule Castle Town. Go through the red door of the guard house near the gate, where a red-plumed guard mutters about his ghost research. Smash the pots with the sword. Green rupees pop out and your counter climbs from about 88 to 105 rupees.

Sell bottled things to the Buyer

Run through the market square and turn into the alley where a lantern-lit basement shop sits under a stair. The Buyer begs you to sell him bottled things. He pays 30 rupees for a fresh fish (“Oooh, a fish!”), asks whether you have more and pays 30 again for each further fish, then takes a bug for 20. Sell everything you can spare, and your wallet climbs from 106 to 216 rupees by the time you reach the next shop.

Bunny Hood

Borrow the Bunny Hood

Walk to the Happy Mask Shop. At night the shopkeeper refuses to open, saying the shop is open only during the daytime. Take out the Ocarina and play the Sun’s Song to bring the morning, then step through the curtains. The shopkeeper says you owe 30 rupees to cover the Spooky Mask you sold. Pay it, and he asks which mask you want to check out. Pick the Bunny Hood and wear it out of the shop.

Running Man

Sell the Bunny Hood to the Running Man

Leave town through the gate into Hyrule Field and follow the paved road. The Running Man spots your rabbit ears and begs for them, saying price is no object. Agree to sell the Bunny Hood. He hands over a glittering Gold Rupee worth 200 rupees, and your wallet jumps from 186 to 386.

Mask of Truth

Mask of Truth

Return to the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Castle Town and talk to the shopkeeper. He notes you made a sale and says you must pay 50 rupees for the Bunny Hood, so your wallet drops to 336. Because that was the last mask to sell, he rewards you from his special reserve. The message reads “You checked out the Mask of Truth!” Wear it and talk to everyone you meet, as he advises.

With the mask on, hear out the townspeople in the market. One daydreams about borrowing a funny mask from the shop and fears it would bomb, while an old man mutters that he is looking for a damsel who brews the ultimate potion. Neither conversation gives you an item. Leave through the gate and follow the road across Hyrule Field to the Kokiri Forest entrance.

Lost Woods with the Mask of Truth

Second Deku-nut bag

Pass through Kokiri Forest into the Lost Woods and follow the musical glow to the scrub glade. The Business Scrubs here sell a green potion, three recovery hearts and a Business Scrub seed, so buy nothing unless you need it. Walk on to the stump in the clearing and talk to the lone Deku Scrub beside it. It remarks on your frightening face, offers a bag large enough for many Deku nuts and begs you to spare it. You receive a bag that holds up to 40 nuts.

Bug

Bug in a bottle

Continue through the glade to the leafy patch under the trees where bugs crawl. Use an Empty Bottle on a bug, and repeat for each empty bottle you carry. The message reads “You collected a bug in a bottle!” Step on the save flower near the exit, then drop through the round hole in the floor that leads out toward Zora River.

Zora River and Magic Beans

Buy seven Magic Beans

You land on Zora River. Walk up the rocky bank past the waterfall to the Bean Seller by his iron gate. Each time you buy, the price rises by 10, and the beans you buy here cost 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 rupees. After the fifth bean your wallet runs low, so earn more rupees and come back for the last two. At the end he says that is the last of his magic beans and tells you to find some nice, soft soil.

Plant the beans

Plant the first bean at the soft soil patch beside the seller’s gate. Return to the Lost Woods and plant a second at the patch just past the tunnel from Zora River. Run on through Goron City to Death Mountain Trail and plant a third at the soil patch on the red canyon path before the rope bridge. The seller promises that the beans grow into something interesting if you wait long enough.

Cross into Gerudo Valley next. Carry a Cucco and glide down to the grassy ledge by the cow to plant the fourth bean. Swim down to Lake Hylia and run along the shore to the lit building by the pier, where the fifth patch is. That leaves you with two beans in the item menu.

Red Rupee chest in the Lake Hylia cave

Close to the owl’s perch on the cliff, move the stone slab to open a hole in the ground and drop in. Inside the cave, light a Deku Stick at the brazier and use it on the unlit torches around the room. A chest rises on the slab. Open it for a Red Rupee, worth 20 rupees.

Kaepora Gaebora and Ganondorf

Kaepora Gaebora

Ride to Hyrule Castle

Climb back to the cliff perch and talk to Kaepora Gaebora. He tells you this is Lake Hylia, watched over by the Zora, and that the Water Temple lies at the bottom of the lake. He asks whether you want a lift to Hyrule Castle. Say “Yes, please!” and he carries you across the night sky to the castle.

Ganondorf

Ganondorf at the drawbridge

Rain pours in the dark outside the castle. The drawbridge is raised, and you hear Impa call for the gatekeeper to throw down the bridge. A white horse races past carrying two riders, and then a rider on a black horse comes up the slope toward you and stops.

Ganondorf says he remembers you as the child from before. He demands to know where the white horse carrying a woman and a little brat ran off to, and he warns you not to be a fool. He knocks you to the ground, says he will overlook your impertinence this time, gives his name, says he will rule this world, and leaves you alone on the dark bank beside the moat. From there the path leads straight to the Temple of Time.
