LinkAdult
You needEpona, the Ocarina of Time with the Sun’s Song, at least one Empty Bottle
RewardsHookshot Hookshot, Song of Storms, Piece of Heart Heart Pieces #17, #18 and #19, two Poes in bottles

Adult Link comes back to Kakariko Village for one big prize, the Hookshot. Bring a bottle into the Graveyard, grab a floating Heart Piece, catch a couple of Poes and follow Dampé’s ghost through his tunnels to win the Hookshot. The tunnel exit drops you in the village windmill, where a second Heart Piece sits on a ledge and the Music Man teaches you the Song of Storms. A faster second race in Dampé’s grave earns a third Heart Piece.

Kakariko Village

Ride to Kakariko Village

Pierre the scarecrow finishes his business at the ranch fence by thanking you for the soul-shaking melody and wandering off, so mount Epona and ride across Hyrule Field to the village gate. Hold the gallop button on the road and slow down with Whoa! before the steps. A banner reads Kakariko Village as you arrive, and it is night.

Play the Sun’s Song

Open the songbook with the Check songbook prompt and play the Sun’s Song to turn night into day. The message “You played the Sun’s Song!” confirms it, and the village switches to daylight.

Head for the Graveyard

Talk to the old woman in the blue robe near the entrance if you want a hint. She asks whether you are another Castle Town refugee and warns you to beware of the house covered in cobwebs and the monsters that have moved in. Other villagers chat about the rumors of Dampé’s ghost, and a bearded man says his beard senses something wicked at the bottom of the well. Nothing in the village needs doing yet. Take the road past the houses and the well, then follow the stone steps up to the Graveyard.

Graveyard at night

Bottle a Poe

Poes float between the headstones with purple lanterns. Equip an Empty Bottle, wait for one to drift close and swing the bottle at it. Navi says “It…fits in a bottle.” and the bottle slot shows a Poe. Keep the bottle: the Poe Collector in Hyrule Castle Town pays for Poes, and you will sell them to him in a later chapter.

Piece of Heart

Heart Piece #17

Walk to the old stone wall in the corner of the Graveyard where a red and blue Deku Flower is growing. Step into the flower and let it launch you up and over the wall. A Heart Piece hovers on a block on the far side, and Navi remarks that it is floating. Pick it up for Heart Piece #17. The message reads “Collect four of them to gain an additional heart!”

Catch a second Poe

Keep going along the path between the tombs and another Poe rises in a purple haze. Catch it in a second Empty Bottle. The message “You collected a poe in a…” confirms it. Two Poes is enough for now.

Dampé’s grave and the Hookshot

Open Dampé’s grave

Look for a tombstone with a Grab prompt beside the path. Pull it aside and a glowing hole appears underneath. Drop in and you land on a yellow flower at the start of a purple tunnel. Walk down the tunnel and the passage ends at a barred gate. Dampé’s ghost waits behind it and a banner reads Welcome.

Dampé’s race

Dampé says he used to run the “Heart-Poundin’ Grave-Diggin’ Tour” and has dug a tunnel system under the Graveyard. He wants you to keep up with him and warns that he is impatient, so if he cannot see you for a while you are disqualified. Follow his lantern through the tunnels. He calls “Over here!” at each fork. Stay close and keep running, and the barred gate at the end opens.

Hookshot

Hookshot

Dampé is pleased that you kept pace and hands over his pride and joy. Open the chest on the red rug in the chamber to get the Hookshot. The message “You were given the Hookshot!” appears and the item card says to shoot at dedicated targets to travel, then hold and release. Press the button to fire it at the rune-marked targets above doorways and ledges and it pulls you across.

Forest Temple Mysteries update

After the item card, an Event Update banner reads Forest Temple Mysteries, with a prompt to open the Threads of Time. Check it for your next goal. Climb the stairs at the end of the chamber and use the Hookshot on the target above the exit gate to pull yourself over. Follow the dark tunnel until you pop out in Kakariko Village.

The windmill

Piece of Heart

Heart Piece #18

The tunnel opens onto the upper floor of the windmill. Cross the wooden floor toward the central shaft and a Heart Piece waits on the small platform around it. Press the button when the Take prompt shows. This is Heart Piece #18 and the message says to collect two more.

Song of Storms

Go down the stairs and talk to the Music Man. He mutters that it has been seven years and that he gets upset at the sound of an ocarina. He then plays a short tune and says it has been stuck in his head ever since. Play the notes back as the staff shows them. The game says “You learned the Song of Storms!” and the Music Man erupts that you played the evil song. An Event Update banner reads Broken Windmill, Dry Well.

Dampé’s second race

Piece of Heart

Heart Piece #19

Return to the Graveyard, drop into Dampé’s grave again and talk to him through the bars. He asks how the Hookshot is treating you and offers a prize if you can beat his course in under a minute. Pick Yes, then run the same tunnels. Follow his lantern past each “Over here!” and beat the one-minute timer. “CLEARED!” appears with a time of 49.86 seconds.

Dampé lets you take his treasure. Open the chest in the chamber for Heart Piece #19. The message says to find one more, and the chest is the last of the three in this chapter. Climb back up the stairs, fire the Hookshot at the target above the gate and follow the tunnel back out to the windmill.

Leaving Kakariko

Head out

Walk down from the windmill past the well and out through the village gate. Call Epona and ride across Hyrule Field toward Hyrule Castle Town. Your next stop is the Poe Collector, who buys the Poes in your bottles.
