This chapter takes you from the Poe Collector’s house to the doorstep of the Forest Temple. You collect four Gold Skulltula tokens on the way, play Saria’s Song to talk Mido out of the path, cross the Sacred Grove maze past its Moblin guards, defeat the Great Moblin and learn the Minuet of the Forest from Sheik. A Business Scrub Seed waits behind a sealed door near the end.

Poe Collector in Hyrule Castle Town

Poe Collector

Talk to the Poe Collector

Ride Epona into the ruined Hyrule Castle Town and find the Poe Collector’s house. He notices your horse and says he pays extra for big poes, plus bonus points for each one you bring. A lantern like his near a rotted fence or a fallen tree marks the home of a big poe, and you must approach quickly and fire. You have nothing to sell yet, so choose “Never mind.” The Big Poes page lists every spot.

Hyrule Castle Town to Kokiri Forest

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #43

Head north through the broken streets toward Ganondorf’s Castle. The title card appears as the castle comes into view over the ruins. Walk on past the ruined archway and look up at the crumbling stonework above you. A gold glint marks a token, so aim the Hookshot at it with ZR and fire. You get Gold Skulltula #43. This is one of the Gold Skulltula locations to pick up on the way.

Cross Hyrule Field to Kokiri Forest

Leave the ruins and the Hyrule Field name appears. Hold Dash to dive through the dark water at the edge of the field, then slip into the dark cave mouth beyond and follow the path under the trees. It leads straight into Kokiri Forest, and the title card confirms it. Everything you need in the forest lies on the way to the Lost Woods exit.

Kokiri Forest as an adult

Talk to the Kokiri

Walk up the trail and talk to the Kokiri you meet. A boy with a sword is amazed at how big you are and says his friend Saria has not returned from the Lost Woods, where the way to the Forest Temple is swarming with monsters. He hopes you will help. Read the sign outside the largest house, which names it the Mansion of the Great Mido, Boss of the Kokiri. Another Kokiri child sees your fairy, thinks you may be one of them and asks whether you saw Mido on the way. Mido went off to the Lost Woods and has not come back, which is where you go next.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #44

Take out your ocarina and play the Sun’s Song to turn day into night. Walk past the House of the Twins sign toward the huge tree trunk at the edge of the village. When a token icon lights up on your HUD, look up the trunk until a gold glint shows on a branch. Hold the Hookshot out and press ZR. The message box reads “You’ve collected 44 tokens so far.”

Follow the hollow log to the Lost Woods

Continue along the path past a ladder that leads up to a treehouse, and cut down the Deku Babas that snap at you. Climb the ivy wall at the end, then run through the carved hollow log. The Lost Woods title card appears at the far end. Follow the foggy path until a small Kokiri ahead stammers “Wh-who are you?!” That is Mido, guarding the gate.

Mido and Saria’s Song

Mido

Mido blocks the path

Walk up to Mido. He finds your clothing weird and suspicious, says he made a promise to his friend and is not letting anyone through, and tells you to go away because you are a grown-up and no Kokiri. Navi explains that you are Link, but Mido insists that Kokiri never grow up, so he calls you a liar. He says Saria has a song she teaches only to her closest friend and challenges you to prove you are her friend. Time to play her tune.

Play Saria’s Song

Open the songbook, choose Saria’s Song and play it. The box reads “You played Saria’s Song!” Mido stumbles over his words, because Saria shares this tune only with her friends. He starts to wonder whether you could really be Link, and tells you that Saria went into the Forest Temple deep in the woods.

Saria

Saria and Mido’s promise

A scene shows Saria sitting on a stump in the ruins. She says she hears a voice calling her from within the temple that will guide her inside, thanks Mido for being so concerned, and says she must go because there is something she has to do there. She promises Mido she will be back before he knows it. Back at the gate Mido tells you she warned that the woods might be more dangerous now, so he gave his word to let no one through. He admits you want to go deeper because you want to save Saria, and that he wants that too. He still does not quite believe you are Link, but because you knew Saria’s Song he lets you through and asks you to swear you will save her. Talk to him once more to go on.

Lost Woods as an adult

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #45

Follow the path deeper into the misty woods until a tall rock face blocks the way. A multicolored flower pad sits at its base. Step onto the pad and it launches you up to a ledge, where a token waits in the gloom. Collect Gold Skulltula #45. The box says “You’ve collected 45 tokens so far.” The Lost Woods chapter covers the rest of this area as a child.

Business Scrub in the Lost Woods

Take the dark cave nearby and deal with the Business Scrub inside. Once you beat his attack he apologizes and opens his shop, which sells a Recovery Heart, three Recovery Hearts and a Magic Jar. You do not need anything here, so choose “See you later.” Other Scrubs and their stock are collected on the Business Scrubs and Scrub Seeds page.

Link faces a Business Scrub under a leafy hat in a dim cave, with its lock-on marker showing

Sacred Grove maze

Enter the Sacred Grove

Stand on the yellow flower behind the Scrub and ride it up and over the wall. The Sacred Grove title card appears as you land among mossy ruins, and a long vertical map shows the maze ahead. Hit the pink plant that snaps at you with a sword strike. Then follow the carved walls past the first corner.

Get past the Moblins

Armored Moblins patrol the corridors. Navi explains that they only see what is in front of them and that their backs are surprisingly unarmored. Hide behind a wall until one turns away, then pick Bombs in the item menu, hold one and throw it at the Moblin’s back. Slash it as it staggers. Repeat for every guard on the route.

Flooded channel

The maze includes low water channels. Hold the dash button at the water’s edge to dive through and surface on the other side. Moblins still patrol the banks beyond, so use the same bomb trick on them. Keep going until you reach a dead-end alcove with a wall at the back.

Golden Skull Token

Gold Skulltula #46

Switch from Bombs back to the Hookshot in the item menu. Look for the blue spark on the wall in the dead-end and fire at it. The box shows “You got a Gold Skulltula token!” That is Gold Skulltula #46, the last token of this chapter.

Great Moblin fight

Great Moblin

Approach the Great Moblin

Walk the overgrown corridor until you spot a huge armored Great Moblin at the far end. Navi warns that its huge club is not just for show, and that anyone standing in front of it when it hits gets sent flying. She suspects it is not smart to fight it head-on, so look for a way to avoid the shock waves.

Link runs down the mossy corridor with his sword drawn toward a Great Moblin at the far end

Great Moblin boss fight

Switch to Bombs and throw them at the Great Moblin from a distance. Its club slams send dust and shock waves down the corridor, and a hit knocks you flat and costs several hearts, so keep to the side and arrive with full health. When a bomb stuns it, red triangles show on its golden chest armor. Run in and slash it, and a burst of red and purple light finishes it. Then the steps up open.

Minuet of the Forest

Sheik

Meet Sheik at the warp platform

Climb the steps to the clearing with the stone warp platform. Navi spots Sheik across it. Sheik greets you and says you have reunited with your childhood friends, though you are an adult now and they are as they ever were. The flow of time differs for everyone, but memories of a childhood together never change.

Learn the Minuet of the Forest

Sheik plays the Minuet of the Forest on a harp while a music sheet appears. Copy the notes on your ocarina, one button at a time, until the box reads “This melody invokes the power of the forest.” Play it to warp to the Sacred Grove from anywhere. Sheik tells you to defeat the monster inside the temple and awaken the girl destined to become a sage. All Ocarina songs are listed in one place.

Leave the warp platform

Sheik vanishes, and Navi wonders where he went. Walk off the platform and follow the dark forest trail. It ends at a large blue-lit door set into the stone.

Song of Time door, Gossip Stones and the way to the temple

Open the Song of Time door

Walk up to the glowing crystalline door and check it. Navi remarks that the design looks an awful lot like the door in the Temple of Time. Open the songbook, pick the Song of Time and play it. A swirl of light wraps around Link and the door slides open. A path leads to a small clearing beyond.

Business Scrub Seed

Business Scrub Seed

A wooden chest sits beside the first Gossip Stone. The stone whispers that holding out a Deku Stick near a butterfly might bring a surprise. Open the chest and take the Business Scrub Seed. The item text says you can use it to summon a Business Scrub, so keep it for later. The Gossip Stones page lists every hint.

Second Gossip Stone and the temple entrance

Follow the trail on past a second Gossip Stone. It says that despite appearances Saria is often lonely, and Navi remarks that the stones’ markings look like eyes. A stone platform on the way offers to place a Farore’s Wind warp point. Climb the stairs and fire the Hookshot at the glowing target above the stone gateway. The path beyond ends at a glowing doorway into the Forest Temple.
