This chapter covers the trip home for the Iron Boots, the horseback fight with King Bulblin on the Bridge of Eldin, a round of shopping and bug hunting in Kakariko, and the climb up Death Mountain to beat Gor Coron at sumo. The shortest route is: ride to Ordon, win two sumo matches against Bo for the Iron Boots, return to Kakariko, beat King Bulblin, then climb the mountain using the boots against the rolling Gorons.

Iron Boots in Ordon Village

Mayor Bo

Talk to Mayor Bo

Ride Epona back to Ordon. Talk to the villagers and tell them the children are safe in Kakariko, then go to the south end of the village to meet Mayor Bo outside his house. He comments on your clothes and invites you in. After you tell him about Ilia and the Gorons, he offers to share the secret he uses to beat them.

Iron Boots

Sumo with Bo and the Iron Boots

Bo takes you behind his house to a sumo ring. Press A to grab your opponent and keep tapping A to shove him back toward the edge of the ring. When he lunges at you, sidestep with the control stick or duck so he misses, then grab again. The first bout is a tutorial; the second, against the real Bo, is only slightly harder, and the shove-and-sidestep routine wins both. Afterwards, open the chest for the Iron Boots, which make Link heavy and slow, stop him being pushed by Gorons and wind, and stick him to magnetic surfaces.

Piece of Heart

Heart Piece #1: Fado’s goats

Before you leave, ride to Ordon Ranch. Talk to Fado once to hear his thanks, then talk to him again while mounted on Epona (use the horse grass to call her if she is not with you). Agree to herd the goats once more: all 20 must be penned within three minutes. Succeed and he gives you a Piece of Heart (#1 on the Heart Piece list). Then ride back to Kakariko.

King Bulblin on the Bridge of Eldin

King Bulblin

Chase him on horseback

When you reach Kakariko, a cutscene shows King Bulblin’s gang charging through the village. Beth freezes, Colin pushes her aside and is carried off, and you must rescue him. Ride Epona out of the north gate over the fence. King Bulblin blows his horn and calls Bulblin archers on boars, then rides away. Slash the archers if they are in your way, then use Epona’s carrot dashes to catch the king and strike him with your sword.

He is fast, so do not chase him straight on: cut across and predict where he will turn. After several hits he flees to the Bridge of Eldin and Link follows.

The bridge joust

Bulblins set fire to the entrance behind you, and King Bulblin charges. Ride straight at him on the left side, then dodge to the right at the last second and swing. A well-timed slash hits him and a bad one gets you knocked off, costing a heart. After a few clean hits he falls into the gorge and Colin is safe. See the boss guide for later fights.

Back in Kakariko, Colin is safe with the other children and gives a rousing speech before he collapses with exhaustion.

Kakariko Village shopping and Golden Bugs

Hylian Shield

Malo Mart and the Hylian Shield

Talo tells you his brother Malo has reopened the village shop, now Malo Mart, the first building on the right. It sells a Wooden Shield and the Hylian Shield, which never burns. Death Mountain burns wooden shields, including the Ordon Shield, so buy the Hylian Shield now (200 Rupees) if you can afford it. The shop also sells a Wooden Shield for 50 Rupees and a Red Potion for 30, and only opens in daylight. See Malo Mart.

Male Ant

Graveyard: Male Ant, Bee Larva and chests

Go to the Kakariko Graveyard. Two gravestones can be pushed back; one hides a yellow rupee. In the northeast corner, a golden glint marks the Male Ant, so walk up and press A. Above the two trees there, Guay birds circle: pull them in with the Gale Boomerang and slash them, and rupees fall when all are dead.

A beehive hangs in the second tree. Hit it with the Slingshot until it falls, deal with the bees, then catch Bee Larva in an empty bottle for fishing bait. Below the hive are two unlit torches on the ground. Light both with the lantern and a chest appears holding a purple rupee.

Female Ant

Female Ant and Elde Inn

Back in the village, a row of buildings along the east side is boarded up, but the third building can be entered. The Female Ant lies on the floor inside. At the Elde Inn, a chest sits under the stairs on the ground floor with a red rupee, and Renado, Beth, Luda and the resting Colin are upstairs. Barnes cannot sell bombs yet because the Gorons will not trade with him.

Climbing Death Mountain

Iron Boots

Toss the Gorons with the Iron Boots

Leave the village by the north path and climb the fence to meet the same Goron. Equip the Iron Boots, and when he rolls at you, hold A to grab him and throw him aside. Take the boots off to move normally and repeat for each new Goron as you climb.

Bulblin archers in the steam

Further up, Bulblin archers shoot fire arrows at you through the steam. Shoot them with the Slingshot (aim a little above each archer), raise the shield to block from the front, or sprint through. Blow the hawk grass if you want to use the hawk to take them out. Keep climbing until a cutscene shows the summit.

Goron

Reach the summit with Goron springboards

At the top, a burning boulder crashes into the area; it will matter later. Gorons here attack you, and a hit or two, or a block, curls them into a ball. Jump onto a curled Goron and he stands up and launches you to a higher ledge. Use one to reach the upper level, go northeast, and launch off another Goron.

You reach wind geysers. Equip the Iron Boots to walk through them without being blown off. Defeat the Goron beyond and use him to go higher. Continue the same way, tossing rollers, putting on the boots at geysers and springboard Gorons, until you reach the cave at the summit.

Gor Coron’s sumo match

Gor Coron

Beat the Goron Elder

Inside, the Gorons crowd you, but Gor Coron the Goron Elder stops them and challenges you to sumo. Your first attempt without boots ends fast. Equip the Iron Boots and challenge him again. With the boots on you are far heavier than he is, so a single grab and shove carries him out of the ring. Without them you are pushed out almost at once, which is why the first try ends so fast.

When you win, Gor Coron lets you into the Goron Mines and asks you to save Darbus, the Goron Patriarch. Continue to Goron Mines when you are ready.

Optional: the hot springs below

Before entering the mines an elevator that only responds to the Iron Boots takes you down to the hot springs. The water heals like a spirit spring, you can bottle it (it cools down after a while), and a Goron shop stands near the springs.
